Question:
I know drainage is common, but the amount of increase is frightening me. Open
RNY 12-27. Drainage tube removed day of discharge. I changed my dressing, as instructed, once a day when I showered. The drainage has increased to the point that I change the dressing every 1-3 hours, even during the night. This morning when I woke up, the drainage had gone through my binder and covered large portions of the front of my flannel gown. The drainage is red and watery in color. I do not have a fever, but I sense a slight odor, maybe just because there is so much drainage. I have a check-up tomorrow, and I am soooooo scared my surgeon may have to do something drastic. Any thoughts? — Judith A. (posted on January 7, 2002)

Jen my wife was that way. After the tube was pulled she drained more. Most
likely from rolling on her side irritating the tube area. It spiked to a
big amount, then slowly went away. Her clothes were wet all the time, and I
was the dressing changer. I wouldnt worry about it.... Mine leaked a good
bit too.
