Question:
Cold hands, nose and feet since surgery, anyone else experience this?
I am 7 weeks post-op (open RNY) and my hands, nose and feet are always ice cold. Before surgery I was always hot, so this is new for me. Anyone else experience this? — Lynda T. (posted on January 3, 2002)

Hello. I am 8 1/2 months post-op and I am always-ALWAYS cold. I used to be the person who could
not get cool enough, always sweating. Now, my hubby laughs because I have
to have three blankets on the bed to keep me warm. I told my mother-in-law
"I miss my fat, it was warm." She fell out of her chair
laughing. Anyway, hope this helps. If my feet were any colder I could put milk next to them and
not need a refrigerator. LOL

I am in the same boat, I am 9 weeks out and my cold nose drives me crazy. Every time I
get close to my DH I stick my nose in his neck, now when he sees me coming,
he runs!!LOL, but seriously, I have the same problem. My feet have always
been cold, but my nose and hands are
new to me!trina

Me too! The cold nose thing is
driving me nuts. I never had this problem. Sure I know, it's cold outside, but this is indoors and all
the time. I keep telling my hubby my nose is going to fall off from
frostbite pretty soon.(6 months out 257lbs down to 165lbs)

I am 8 wks. out and brrrrrrr, sometimes I just have to go to bed early just
to get under the electric blanket, ahhhh...my best friend. My husband got
a dual control one because I was burning him out of the bed. I also have a
hard time holding my cold water with
my cold hands, bought a little cuzie
yesterday for my water bottles. I have heard from some that it just takes
a while for the body to acclimate to the sudden weight loss, but have also
heard that some people freeze forever. I was always the HOT one. Boy,
what a change. But I have to say that I would rather put layers on because
you can only take so much off. Keep warm.

Oh my goodness!!!!!! I have been sooooo cold! I used to sleep in just a t-shirt
because I would get so hot! Well, now I wear flannel jammies, big socks,
and have 2 thick comforters on my bed and the heat on! I even ordered some
silk thermal undies from L.L.Bean to wear under my clothes at work. I have
found that drinking herbal teas help warm me up. Hot bubble baths work good
also. Good Luck!

I am six months post op and I was going to ask my Dr. about my
my cold nose, hands and feet!!!!!
Yeah, I live in Seattle, and it does
get rainy and cold...but since my
surgery, I am cold in my office,
in the living room with the heater and fireplace going, under
my bed comforter and extra blankets WITH MY SWEATSHIRT AND SOCKS ON!
My sister told me he hasn't seen a picture of me without my sweatshirt
on. I don't hide my fat anymore. I'm cold all the time!!!!
If this is one of the costs of being thin...bring on the Eddie Bauer!
I needed an excuse for some new clothes!

Yep, I'm ALWAYS cold too!! I swear
if you touch my skin you'd think I was dead!!! I was cold right after surgery and it hasn't
went away (almost 9 weeks post-op). I was at the doctor yesterday and he
said it was normal.

I'm 3 weeks post-op and I have the same problem. I thought maybe I was
getting sick, but now I know that this is normal.

Yes!!!! and it is a mystery as to why it happens. I started getting colder right after I had the surgery,
even with only a 20 lb weight loss I felt it! I could understand if it
came after you had lost a significant amount thereby supporting the theory
of "less insulation" to keep us warm, but I am just a cold after losing 70 pounds as I was after
losing only 20. I have my own theory... I think our bodies are so busy
using all our "fuel" to continuely burn calories and fat, that it
doesn't have the extra to maintain a warm body temperature. My hubby who
has lost over 60 pounds on the Atkins diet is cold for the first time in his life this
winter. To see him go to bed with a t-shirt and flannel jammie pants is so
strange!!! Where he could walk around wearing just a regular t-shirt
during a cold winters day, he is now
wearing turtle-necks, sweaters and sweatshirts! So it isn't just WLS
people who experience the cold... I
really think it has something to do with the physical and metabolic
functions of your body "working" to lose weight. The one thing I
am excited to see is if in the summer when I used to "sweat" to
death will I be more comfortable? Take care and for all of us I am hoping
for warmer weather soon!!!

I am 9 weeks post-op, down 50# and always cold. I attribute it to loss of fat
insulation. I go to sleep at night as if I am ready for the ski slopes.
All I need is a hat and gloves and I'm all set.

Yes, after almost 3 years I am still freezing constantly. My ex husband
used to say that i was his foot warmer in bed. My new hubby says that I
could freeze meat now on my feet. My nose is colder than a puppy's nose all the time.
Okay, here is the "upside" to this. I don't sweat (I guess
ladies perspire as my mom would say) in the summertime anymore. I honestly
don't even really have to wear deoderant in the summer. I just don't
sweat. So, I guess that offsets the freezing in the winter.

Lynda, I have the same problem. My husband tells me I am going to cook him
because I keep it so warm in the house. I use to stay really warm, but now
it goes below 70 degrees and I get cold.
