Question:
Does this sound like a allergic reaction to fish?

Hi Everyone, and Happy New year! I was wondering if this sounds like an allergic reaction? I have never been a major tuna fish lover but have occasionally eaten it just to have something different. I chew it well, and always feel like crap afterwards. I always feel as though it is stuck and have to vomit to make the pain go away. So I stopped with the tuna. Last night, New years eve, I attended a party where dinner was served first, and thinking of protein, and ease of digestion I picked the Salmon dinner over the steak, and as of 7 this evening, 24 hours later, I have had the same feeling, and wound up having to make myself vomit to get through the rest of the night. I didn't overeat, or eat fast and I chewed it well. This is so weird. I eat turkey, chicken and hamburger with ease. Does this sound like I am allergic to fish now, or my pouch just doesn't like it anymore? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!    — Carey N. (posted on January 1, 2002)

IMHO, that does not sound like an allergic reaction to me. I am allergic to shellfish. I go into respiratory distress. Prior to that with food allergies, true food allergies, I get hives sometimes without respiratory distress. It sounds typical of wls...some foods just do NOT agree with us. For me, it is salads & I am 6 months out. We all have a few foods to avoid. And that may change in a few more months.

Salmon is one of the few fishies I will touch. Only if it is perfect. I absolutely cannot do left over, though, and that seems to be pretty common among us, at least in our local support group. Was it reheated in any way?

Chicken does this to me and I'm not allergic to it. Bread can do it as well and I have to throw it up. All of us have different foods that cause problems. Listen to your body and don't eat it anymore, or if you do eat it then only a few bites.

I experince the same thing only not every time. I have eaten both Tuna and Salmon several times with no problems but have also vomited from it. I can't imagine it is an allergic reaction. I look at it the same way as sometime a little bit of food fills me up while other times I eat all I should and can easily eat more.
