Juice of any kind is concentrated calories and fruit sugar. My dr limits us to 4 oz of juice a day because of the high calories. Plus you are missing the added benefits of fiber you get with eating real fruit. Have you ever made orange juice? it takes about 4-6 oranges for one small glass of juice, so you are getting the concentrated calories and fruit sugar of sitting down and eating 4 oranges! Eat one orange, suck the juice, chew the pulp, and probably leave the juice for a treat on a really special day, like maybe Christmas morning. good luck

YES, they are high calorie liquids, and should be limited in quanties. But a cup a day or so of OJ is a good idea, it contains potassium and other good vitamins. J

Hi, While the calories in OJ may be high the health benefits are great...always better to get the real vitamins rather than in pill form....I like to stretch my OJ by mixing it with a diet lemon-like soda...no added calories but it increases my liquid intake. This is a great drink for those holiday parties...people will think you are drinking a screwdriver and not nag you about why you aren't drinking.

Can't say it's hindered mine! I have been drinking OJ fairly often since about 1 month post op. At that time, I was craving something a little sour and OJ did the trick. I had to search high and low for a brand that was not too sweet. I have found that most brands are too sweet and I can not drink them. However, I found that Minute Maid Pulp Free is perfect. I have a glass every morning and sometimes a second at night. I had surgery in January 2001 and am currently at 127 pounds which is 12 pounds under my goal. So, for me the OJ did not hinder my loss at all. My doctor does not restrict our diet. He wants us to live a normal life which in my opinion includes occasional orange juice. Shelley

Depends on the quantity! A 40z. glass a day, would be just fine... probably even 8oz. But, if you are drinking glass after glass of any sugary drink, you definitely hinder your weight loss. One of the hardest parts about life after this surgery is accepting that we have to give up or strictly limit some of the things we love the most...even those that have great nutrtional value...if they aren't in comliance with "the rules".

It all depends on what you were told by your doctor or nutricionist, and boy we know they have different opinions!!! I was told to live my life as normal as possible meaning not restricting ANYTHING. I can have everything I want in SMALL quantities, according to my surgeon and I LOVE HIM FOR THIS!!! the purpose of the surgery is to free yourself of the " I can't have this" or I shouldn't have that" even if you have high calorie foods or drinks the amount you take is so small that in no way will cause weight gain. But the key word is SMALL servings. Relax and enjoy your glass of OJ it has lots of potassium.

I drink OJ just about every day and I haven't had any problems losing weight. My favorite is Tropicana Pure Premium (pulp-free). It's not from concentrate, so it doesn't have that icky, concentrate flavor that many of the frozen kinds (and even some fresh kinds in the cartons) have. I don't dilute it, either.

Has'nt hurt my weight loss in the least. Which is good as I have to take liquid potassium and I put it in VERY deluted OJ (Minute Maid Orange Passion). I'm supposed to put in three containers of water. I usually do 4 and a half. I like it thin anyway and did the same before the WLS. I also put lots of Splenda in it as I like it very sweet. I'll be seven months post op (Open RNY) this Saturday and I'm down at least 116 pounds, probally more as I have'n weighed in awhile. So the OJ has'nt hurt me at all. But then again, I enjoy it more (both pre and post op) deluted.

I love a small glass of OJ. I especially like the different varieties...Orange Tangerine, or Low acidity w/calcium. My weight has been coming off great!
