Question:
Everything tastes awful. Does anyone have some high protien recipes?( no shakes)
I had my surgery on 10/10/01. I am having trouble finding foods that taste ok. I guess I am scared to experiment. There are days I don't eat at all. My doctor asked me to start eating soft foods. I need some help with some high protien entree recipes and some snack foods. I had an open rny in Dallas. Shakes are ok, but I can't live on them. — Roshanda P. (posted on October 24, 2001)

I know that since you are just starting to eat soft foods that these
following foods may not sound that good if they're pureed, but when you
start eating more normal foods, these are great and "I" think
easily digestible. I had a lot of distress that was making me sick all the
time so I had no fear in trying a new food. If I got sick I knew it was
inevitable...it was gonna happen wether or not I ate, so I experimented.
Shrimp in Garlic Sauce (I think Sea Pak has the best--no sugar, little fat,
no carbs) High in protein! Tuna with low fat mayo, salt, pepper, Garlic
Salt and I add spanish olives. High in protein! Shredded real crab meat.
Mahi Mahi rubbed in garlic and baked. Chicken and broccolli stir fry
with tofu crumble--if you cook the tofu with the chicken and broccolli, you
won't even taste it! Also, use chicken broth to cook it instead of oils or
butters. Soy Sauce or Stir Fry packets of herbs have no sugars, little or
no fats or carbs! Get a crock pot and cook some chicken and fav veggies.
Wait hours and you've got a very soft meal. I ate this meal (chicken,
carrots, broccolli) at 10 days post op. Chili with tofu crumble and beans!
I had a salad with Light mexican cheese, olives, turkey slices and low cal
italian dressing.
For snacks I sometimes eat a cracker with Reduced fat peanut butter. A
glass of skim milk, non-fat sugar free yogurt. Non fat-cottage cheese with
cinnamon and or pears on top. Some of the best things that I've found
have come straight out of diabetic cook books that I buy in the grocerie
store check out isles. Sometimes you have to adjust things to fit our
gastric bypass needs, but I've had no problem and I'm satisfied. I can't
tolerate any of the protein supplements, so I try my best to get my protein
from my food. Hope this helps. Also, I've gotten some very useful recipes
from the following websites. http://freewill.tzo.com/~jamie/

My favorite way to get protein was to take small cans of tuna or chicken
and puree it with Light Miracle Whip in my mini food processor. I also made
egg salad the same way by grinding up the eggs fine before adding the
Miracle Whip. I couldn't have made it through the first six weeks without
this because I was so tired of soups and protein drinks.
