Question:
Any advice on how I can warm up? I'm FREEZING!!!

I know it is common for wls patients to feel cold all the time after surgery. Loss of insulation or something. Can anyone tell me how to get warmed up? My fingers, feet and nose feel especially cold. I can put a sweater on when I get cold, and slippers for the cold feet and gloves for the cold fingers, but what can I do for my nose?! Is there such a thing as a nose warmer? This constantly freezing feeling is getting rediculous already! I feel like a corpse! I know this sounds like a silly, unimportant question, but it is SO uncomfortable to be cold and I feel like I'm sick. Any advice from any other of you chilly people out there?    — lalasmommy (posted on October 7, 2001)

Isn't this the WORST!?! I am freezing constantly and everyone around me is just hot because I have the heat up. I am in a hotel room in Erie, PA and it is SNOWING outside! Anyway, I just keep my electric blanket plugged in when I'm home and I just get in it when it gets too cold. I don't know what to tell you about the nose except to warm your hands then put them on your nose. Oh well, I'll take being cold due to weightloss anyday! Good luck and God Bless!

Flannel!! Flannel sheets and pillowcases (bury your nose in it! Shivering burns calories- at least:)

Let me tell you something gals.. at 21 months post-op it does not get any better.. God news is I saved a lot of $$$ on AC bills this summer..because I just didn't need it.. Now heating this winter may be another story :) More logs on the fire and more blankees but a good trade off for the loss of all that weight.. I can deal with that..

I have had cold nose problems for years. When I was younger my mother knitted me nose warmers. They worked great. Well, Mom's not here to knit me any more nose warmers so I looked on the internet. They have everything, right? Yep, even nose warmers. Check out this website: http://www.comfynose.com/ They actually sell a nose warmer that's made out of fleece. It looks pretty good to me - a bit on the pricey side but if you suffer from a cold nose like I do and with winter right around the corner it may be worth the 19.95 to get one of these things. Keep warm.

I am always cold also. I have an electric throw blanket that I use on the bed and a cloth, tubular grain-filled thing called a Bed Buddy taht I bought in Walgreens for around $10. You put it in the Microwave for 2 minutes and it keeps you nice and warm with moist heat.

Actually, for some it DOES get better. I'm 1 and 1/2 years postop and it is better. But, when I get cold (and before when it was so bad) I take a hot bath. That heats up my body for hours, it seems. Great thing to do before bedtime. Make your own warmer by putting long grain rice in an old tube sock and tying end in a knot. Heat in microwave. Reusable for months!

21 months post-op and I am still cold! But I look and feel great. Good trade-off I'd say.
