Question:
Dioes anyone else 9-12 mo. post op having trouble with their appetite?

I am 9 months post-op (Lap RNY)and have noticed over the past two weeks a drastic change in my appetite. I was eating fairly normally for a post-op, but suddenly, I just don't feel like eating. It seems too much trouble, even to put a lean cuisine in the microwave. I sometimes will remember to have a protein drink or a bowl of cereal for breakfast, but that's about it. I will forget to eat most of the day, then in the evening about 8 PM will try to eat something, but sometimes don't eat much more than an ounce or two of string cheese for dinner. It seems rather sudden, and I've had this happen fairly early post-op (about 2 months), but this seems different. I'm just not hungry. There seem to be no "mechanical" difficulties eating, just no appetite. Anyone else? Any suggestions appreciated.    — Maria H. (posted on September 14, 2001)

I am six months out and am having the opposite problem! My appetite is returning, and I'm having to be more careful now. If I were you, I would thank your lucky stars that you aren't bothered by annoying hunger. Just make sure to get in your bare minimum protein/water, etc., so you don't have any malnutrition problems. Good luck to you--

I'm a little further out, but after about 4 months, actually, my appetite started to be under control and by a year or so, I was not as attached to food. At this point (7 yrs), most days I don't care if I eat or not. However, I still take 4 "meals" a day, because I take my vites with food. They might not be much, but I find if I go too long without solid food, then once presented with food, I will eat too fast or too much. Also, the steady meals keep my blood sugar from wandering. Of course, I do the protein 4-6 times/day around the meals, so I never actually get truly hungry, just feel sort of, um, hollow?

YES! I am 8 mos. post op (RNY open) and I have the same problem. Eating for me is just too much trouble also. I'd rather just have a protein drink and that's it. I do try to get in at least the bare minimum protein and water. I try real hard to get more, but food isn't my "cruch; drug of choice" any longer. Now eating is just boring. I have GOT to get something else in my life that is exciting and fun.

I am almost 4 months post-op and my appetite/cravings are FINALLY subsiding. Immediately post-op, I was hungry! I was afraid to post that because I read all those posts from others who aren't hungry and don't want to eat. I get hungry, and I eat. But I am having trouble getting in enough protein. I am going to have to visit Michelle's website for samples. I am so thankful I am not starving all the time.
