Take a deep breath. Almost everyone gets a little nervous. This is a BIG step. It helped me to make a list of all the things I couldn't do ( then I marked them off as I lost weight and could do them) and the reasons I wanted to have the RNY. Talk to others who have had surgery. There's a wonderful world on the "other side of WLS". Come on over and enjoy the view!!!

I had the same feelings as you. I was really excited because I knew I was going to have a brand new life after weight loss. However, the night before my surgery and then again the morning of I was ready to bolt. I told them I would go home, diet for a couple of months and come back if that didn't work. I was really scared that I would wake up intubated because I had sleep apnea. The bariatric surgery coordinator, Pam, talked to me and helped me through it. It is a really scary step to take and you know everything is going to be different. Fear of the unknown. I am 17 months postop, have lost 144 pounds and physically feel so different. I can wear size 16 jeans (was in size 28-30 before my surgery) and can wear size large shirts. I am so grateful I went through with it and I would have been so mad at myself if I had not gone through with it. Just keep talking about it and pray (if you believe in prayer) and your higher power will help you make the right decisions. I wish you the best. It is truly a wonderful life-saving and life-giving step to take.

I feel somewhat the same as I know I'm losing my best friend...binge eating. Try writing a pros/cons list of why you're having the WLS. It will help you now, in the hospital & post-up. Best of luck. A

Yes! It is very normal to be scared. I was very scared, and now I am 6 weeks out and doing great! Try Not to worry just get all you last minute things done before surgery. You wont have a chance after for a couple weeks.

The same thing happened to me as soon as I got my approval. If you are afraid of lifestyle changes, then make the lists of pros and cons. I also got out old pictures of myself when I was thin and it reminded of what I wanted. If you are afraid of the surgery, pray and trust in God's love for you.

This nervousness is totally normal. It isn't just WLS that you get nervous about, it is any surgery. With most surgeries you don't have a choice, but with this one you do. You may be a little more nervous than normal, but don't worry. I would be more concerned if you weren't nervous. It is a hard decision to make and you are a very brave person to have made this choice. I am 13 1/2 months out and have gone from a size 26 to a size 10 and am walking 10 miles on weekends on artifical knees. Think about this kind of thing and you will make it. You are you own biggest Hero for making this choice! Judy

You are going thru normal stages -- I often am more concerned over the preop who isn't the slightest bit anxious. You are taking this step seriously. Prior to my surgery 15 months ago I felt like I was in a whirlwind -- but once the morning of my surgery came, I was at complete peace about my decision. I pray that for you, too. Ruthanna

I think every body goes through the excitement and scared stage. I prayed, prayed and prayed, for about 3 days straight. The day of my surgery I was so happy and relaxed and had complete confidence that God had it all in control. I made it throught the surgery with no complications. My surgery was 1/19 an I was 307 size 24/26 and some 28. I am down to 253 and a tight 16. Good luck and pray pray pray.

It's totally normal, you wouldn't be human if you said YAHOO I'm having major surgery, let's go! It's a little scary and exciting at the same time as your life will literally change before your eyes. It's worth every anxious moment, and our prayers will be with you. (RNY 12/17/04, down 55 pounds) We can't wait for you to join the "Losers bench", we'll save you a seat!
