Question:
I burp a lot and get the hiccups more. WHY?
I am a little over 2 weeks post-op from Rny. I find that I burp a lot and have the hiccups more. It's not like huge belches, just little burps, but I am worried. Does it mean anything is wrong? Did anyone else have this? — Renae N. (posted on August 1, 2001)

I am six weeks post-op and I have the same little burps. I don't think it
is abnormal but I am not sure what causes it.

I hiccup when I get a little to full. Usually I just don't eat the
"last bite" and I am ok - I have never thrown up, but this is my
"YOU FOOL YOU ATE TOO MUCH!" indicator. I had lots of weird
belches, pains, cramps and feeling the first month, I think most flks do.

I will hiccup one time when I am full. Isn't that funny? Its a little
sign. The burping is just gas, they are little cause your stomach is
little and the amount of food you eat is little, so the burp is little.
LOL! Sometimes I hear odd noises coming up my esophagus that I never had
before, but they are now normal for me. Relax, you didn't do anything
wrong. Oh, drinking from a straw can increase gas so you might want to
refrain.

I burped quite a bit after eating for more than six months. No big deal.
It did go away eventually.

Hey, this happens to me sometimes, too! I think it is related to my eating
too much too fast -- I'll start hiccuping (not burping) and I know I'm
full! LOL It doesn't happen every time I eat but may have to do with
eating quicker and taking in more air when eating? All the best (lap DS

My niece calls me Auntie Burpie sometimes. There is just so much room in
our little pouches. There's room for food or there's room for air, but not
both, especially if we eat too fast. Getting the burps is a sign that I've
eaten too much, too fast or most likely, both.

I am 10 weeks post-op. I have little burps. However, I hiccup when it is
time for me to stop eating. It goes anyway. It's funny when I have to
explain it to a few close friends. I tell them that it is not the normal
hiccups. I tell them it will go anyway in less than 30 seconds if I don't
take another bite.
