Question:
I am almost 2 weeks post op. I have been eating soft foods.

I has open Rny and I am about 2 weeks post op. My Dr. suggests pureed foods for at least 4 weeks. I CAN"T STAND IT! I have been eating soft foods and chewing them very well. I have not had any problems. Why is it that various doctor's have different post -op guidelines for the same surgery? If I am tolerating soft foods how can it hurt me? When I say soft, I mean like noodles, baked beans, green bean casserole, etc.    — Renae N. (posted on July 30, 2001)

I was liquids 6 weeks. Don't know why , don't care to know why. All I know is where I am now and what got me here and I'm as happy as could be! If you are chewing your food to that soupy consistancy and not having any problems and are happy with that then that's fine. But I would 86 the greenbean stuff and noodles and get some good protein in. It will keep you satisfied longer and is better for you. Those carbs are good if your are a weightlifter or on maintance but to nurish your body and burn fat not muscle go with the protein. I hope this helps you.

Renae - You are right - each Doctor has his own preference. Mine buts us on soft foods immediately upon leaving the hospital. He has been doing this surgery for 20 years.
