Question:
3 weeks post op and nausea increasing
I have tried everything from not eating to eating less, slower, you name it. The nausea just will not go away. I ate a few sardines in mustard sauce today and it seemed to help.Am I not eating enough protein? — Janice T. (posted on April 16, 2000)

Hi, I am 4 weeks post op and have not had any nausea, I have had some
stomach discomfort if I eat anything that I can't chew well. I have stayed
mainly on soft and semisoft food. I have lost 30lbs but expect that to
slow down soon. My advice is to stick to soft foods for a couple more
weeks and then gradually increase more dense food. I think maybe your
stomach just isn't healed enough and may need more time to heal. Good Luck

Hi there. The first thing I would say is to speak with your surgeon about
the nausea. My surgery was 2/23/00 and I was plagued with nausea starting
at about week three or four. I was still on a pureed diet too. Over a
period of weeks I discovered that when I was over tired or over hungry (it
has taken me a while to realize when I'm hungry!), I became very nauseous,
but never to the point of vomiting. My surgeon prescribed a medication by
the name of Zofran which helped me some. It is horribly expensive (about
$450.00), but my insurance did cover it. Anyway, I'm very happy to say it
has worn off more and more as the weeks have passed. Again, PLEASE talk
with your surgeon about your symptoms to make sure it's nothing serious. I
wish you the best of luck!

Janice, if your nausea is increasing, you absolutely need to talk to your
surgeon.
