Question:
I am now underweight and the weightloss shows no signs of stopping. What can I do?
I had open proximal rny in oct 98 I started at 5'8 253 pounds and now I am 126...I am still losing at an alarming rate and I am begining to have concerns and health problems because of it. I have lower back pain, swelling of my ankles, numbness in my toes. I am on Oxoyxontin 60 mgs 2x aday for pain from adhesions due to my cholystectomy, I eat better than 2000 calories a day yet I am still losing at a rate that is too much. My periods have now stopped. I dont know what I should be doing. I go to my PCP for bloodwork this week but I am panicking. I do not ever want to have this reversed. But I am too thin, my bmi is now 19 and it doesnt show any signs of stopping. What else can I do? I know this is not the norm for my type of surgery but I am concerned. Please respond. Yes it sounds like you have a problem. Since I don't know the details of
your surgery nor your exam, detailed history or labwork, I can't really
give any specific advice. Oxycontin 60mg twice a day is a real hefty dose,
seems odd after a cholecystectomy. I suppose you have tried high caloric
high protein type drinks. Are you vomiting or having bad diahrea?

I too had the problem. I am 5'10 and got down to 128, and was crying. The
doc gave me some pancreatic enzyme for me to absorb more fat. Also I got
the California legal medical marijuana to increase my appetite. After
hiring an attorney, and 7 endoscopies, my surgery was revised this past
June, 2 months after the original procedure. I had an ulcer at my pouch,
and a hernia. Supposedly, the surgeon, made my pouch smaller, but I do not
see how. I think he reversed it and is not telling the the truth. I have
gained 15 lbs since June, and I can tell in my legs, they look to me like
the legs I hated for years. Everyone says I look better now, and truly for
2 years, I ate and threw up, so now, I am eating more, maybe because during
that 2 years, I could not eat more than a bit of anything but soup. It
took getting an attorney for me to have the revision. But like I said, I
feel that he reversed it and was not honest. I do not want to gain too
much. You need to go directly to the doc. If he will not revise, you need
a second opinion. I will pray for you.
