Question:
Anyone taking Juice Plus?
Need latest input on taking Juice Plus. How do you feel after taking it, any reaction to it? any info appreciated so I can make a decision. My lab results are all good but I'm so tired all the time. Will this help? I can't digest fruits and vegetables well and I'm not getting many in at all. — Debbie A. (posted on October 29, 2004)

I've been taking Juice Plus for about 9 months. I started taking them as I
could not manage to get in all the required protein plus the fruits and
vegetables and Juice Plus came highly recommended to me. I really think the
supplements have made a difference in my health, not only with energy, but
I have NOT been sick with cough, cold, flu, etc. since I started taking
them and I'm with sick grandsons all the time bringing some bug home from
school. And..... I don't sell the product (just so you know this isn't a
pitch) but use it with high regard.

I havent taken Juice Plus, yet. Just ordered today. This is what the
product my surgeons office highly recommends after surgery. They do have a
web site, I just typed in Juice Plus vitamins and found it easily. It gives
you all the information you need to know about their products. Hope this
information helps.

I don't know this particular product, but you say you're tired though your
labs are good. It's hard to get a fix on what's a good product 'til you
know what you're deficient in. No info given here on what kind of
vitamins/supplements you're using, so I'm taking a WAG here.
First
guess: Falling B-12 levels. Have you gotten copies of your lab results
and compared the trends within them? Many doctors pronounce lab results
"good" if they are in the normal range, but the "normal
range" is awfully broad. What's normal for you may be leave someone
else flat on the floor with fatigue and vice versa, yet all may fall within
the so-called "normal" range. For that reason, I'd suggest
getting copies of your labs and looking for trends in B-12 and iron in
particular. My doc called my B-12 "normal" when I felt fatigued,
but in fact it was trending steadily downward and about to head out of the
normal range (but still, technically, in it). I began B-12 subliguals and
brought it up into a high-normal range, where I feels better. So that's
the number I aim for, not being interested in what's normal for someone
else. Since then, I always read my own labs and ask questions. Remember,
nobody cares more about what particular "numbers" work for you
than you do.
Second guess: Falling ferritin level. Ferritin
(google it) measures one's stores of iron in the body. Are they even
testing you for it (my docs weren't, and I had to push to get it done)? I
see you're two years post-op. Some begin developing the early stages of
anemia then, and it often shows up first in a low ferritin level before it
shows up in the other CBC iron tests. Therefore, I'd consider having your
ferritin tested. Mine had fallen almost out of the normal range, as often
happens with two-year post-ops, despite my use of prescription iron all
along. I'm working on bringing it up with more iron *before* my iron
levels drop across the board. Again, why get lab tests if no one is truly
reading them . . . yet, in my experience anyway, most docs do not pull out
your old tests and compare the two.
Just a couple of thoughts from
a non-medical person who has learned a little bit the hard way. But we're
all different, so of course your fatigue may have nothing to do with any of
this. Just sharing personal experience FWIW. ;-) I hope your doc knows
what nutritional issues to watch for with WLS post-ops. Good luck.
