Question:
I have problems holding food down and have already had 3 upper
endoscopies. It seems as though they help for a few days and then I am back to square one. I am scheduled for another upper endoscopy for tomorrow. Apparently, I have an ulcer which is causing the passageway from my stomach to my small intestine to close. Has anyone else been experiencing the same problem? I had my bypass surgery 9mos ago and was told that most people have this problem within 6-8 weeks post surgery. I would appreciate any comments. Thanks — COOKIE1 (posted on July 1, 2004)

I am about 15 months out and I have had 2 endoscopies and an upper gi, and
a barium swallow. I was just in the hospital becuase I had problems getting
food down. I have had three esphogial obstructions in the past 7-8 weeks. I
haven't found anyone to figure out what the hell is happening. I hope they
get u fixed soon.

I am 9 weeks out from my surgery. 5 weeks ago I had surgery to repair a
bowel obstruction, 4 weeks ago I had an endoscopy to stretch the opening
from the poush to the small intestine. My obstruction was discovered when
my Dr. ordered an Upper GI because I began vomitting and having nausea
frequently throughout the day.
Wishing you the best!

I am very prone to marginal ulcer. You didn't say what they are doing for
you. Yes, the problem can occur within a day or two of surgery. But I had
them on and off during the first 5 yrs, starting early, but returning like
a boomerang. BUT, I was an ulcer sufferer for life before WLS. I could make
an ulcer out of air, I think. Although there are several nice drugs on the
market today to help with ulcers (nothing like what I took in the 70's,
80's & early 90's), sometimes brand X will work better than brand Y.
Not many docs Rx Carrafate and it is fairly cheap and has a very soothing
effect on an angry pouch.
