Question:
Does anyone know what the AMA guidelines are for wls?

I know what the NIH guidelines are (bmi 40 > or a bmi 35 > with comorbidities). My insurance co. is going by the AMA guidelines and I can't locate any info specifically on this.    — Tremia A. (posted on March 28, 2003)

Tremia, I didn't find any specific policy on wls, but I did find the AMAs recommendations for the minimum services an insurance company should cover. Under the "Benefits Not Covered" section it mentions obesity treatment.
