Question:
Are there any support group meetings or informational meetings for bariatric surgery
Are there any meetings open to people considering bariatric surgery by either support groups or surgeons to give information about the different types of surgery and how to pick a surgeon. Any where in Jersey between or near Newark and Toms River. Thanks Neal — [Anonymous] (posted on January 11, 2002)

Hi Neal, I wish I could help you. I had surgery on 7/30/01 and my husband
on 8/83/01. Also, I am a psychotherapist - with a specialty in group work.
I would love to start a group for people who are interestd in the surgery
and who have had the surgery dealing with all the issues involved (eating,
depression, adapting to a new life style, the fears, etc, etc, etc). My
office is in Paramus, which I know is pretty far from you. Perhaps you can
send me tour e-mail and if I can put such a grouo together, I'll let you
know. In the meantime, I hope you find something closer. Good luck -
Nancy

I haven't heard of any groups that discuss all surgery types. You might
call Mt. Sinai and ask about their support/information groups. I know
their surgeon's perform all surgery types and do have support groups. It
may be worth the jaunt into NY.....

Neal- I am having a consult with Dr. Joseph Kamelgard in Newark. He is at
the Univ. of MEd. and Dent. of NJ (UMDNJ). I believe he has many support
group meetings. Look at the Obesity Center website and call to ask them.
hope this helps
