Question:
I'm allergic to almost every kind of pain med except Demerol
But even with Demerol i have to take Phenegran for nausea, how does this work after you come home? How do you take you pain meds? Thanks for any info you can give me! And Gods Speed to you all! — Irishlass2154 (posted on September 3, 2001)

I am also allergic to most pain medications. Demerol with Phenergan was
what I used in the hospital after the surgery. There is an equivelant to
this in pill form for when you come home. I didn't need anything for pain
when I got home, but did notice that if I needed to take it, I would have
to break it in half.

I'm allergic to morphine and had hallucinations with some others. It is
good to know what works though, without having to go through
trial-and-error just so you can 'stay ahead of the pain.' I took no pain
meds after day 8 post op. They can give your pain med in the iv at first,
or into your gastric tube, or by shot, or after a few days by small pills
