Question:
What is Ketosis?
This may sound like a stupid question, but I haven't had my first appointment yet, but I keep seeing that on bio's — Kristy F. (posted on August 28, 2001)

Hi, Ketosis is a state your body is in when you are burning fat. Dr Atkins
diet works on that basis, I used to buy the ketone strips in the drug
store, and let your morning urine run on them if it turns purple, you are
in Ketosis. I guess ketones are an enzyme of sorts. If I would eat
anything with carbs the ketosis would stop. Hope theis helps

Please note that you can burn fat without going into ketosis. This state is
hard on your internal organs.

Ketosis is the state of burning something. They are the bi product of
metabolization. A very low level of ketosis is ok and sometimes desireable
but the higher the ketone bodies present in urine or blood the more
dangerous it becomes. The sticks have color coding and you really do not
want more than pale to light pink or less than 80mg/dl or you are burning
muscle. The most important muscle in your body is what???? your heart.

What Barbie has to say about ketosis is interesting, especially the last
sentence referring to taking in protein and fat but not carbohydrates. The
one thing her message does not mention is taking in your 64+ ozs of water
-- this will decrease the odor involved and your urine will be light
colored; this also is better for your liver.
