Question:
Where can I find a discription of the different types of WLS?
I have a good Idea that I want a RYN but I want to make sure is there somewhere I can get the scoop on all WLS types. Thanks — Sue R. T. (posted on July 16, 2001)

Well, my Dr.'s group has their own web site at www.gastricbypass.com that
explains it pretty well. They don't do DS surg though so that's not in
there. Have you researched this site thoroughly? I found so much info here,
but you have to spend some time looking. BOL!

One of the best website's I have found that gives a detailed description of
all types of WLS is found at:

I disagree with the last poster. The website listed is notoriously slanted
toward the RNY -- use it if you want to confirm your choice of the RNY. If
you want to explore ALL the options go to the library at this site and
check out all the surgeries by searching by name. You will find many
different views about each surgery. You can also find detailed long term
studies for the DS (or BPD/DS) together with DS v RNY comparisons at
www.duodenalswitch.com. I got most of my information for this site as a
pre-op, and as a successful 21 month post-op who is at goal and problem
free, found all the information therein to be completely accurate and the
DS everything it is purported to be in the clinical studies. Good luck
researching. Now's the time to do ALL the research there is, as you will
be living with your choice for the rest of your life.

Hi Sue,
I personally used the library here,e-mailed all types of patients and also
www.duodonalswitch.com. I also used my surgeons site for the different
surgeries used. It's www.surgicallyslim.com. Never hurts to read lots of
different pieces of info. Usually some back up others more often than not
and you know the procedure and what to expect. Then, talk with your
surgeon. I thought I wanted the RNY but a week later the surgeon called me
and said he felt it best if I had BPD/DS since due to a prior surgery the
RNY was potentially lifethreatening(FOR ME!). Best wishes in your quest and
whatever you choose. Any questions don't hesitate to drop me a line!
