Question:
I have a friend who is having an open rny and the incision is like an upside down V.
Has anyone heard of this? Mine starts up at my breast bone and goes down around my belly button but is a straight line. I have never heard of starting up at the breast bone and cutting down like an upside down V.?? — Anita I. (posted on June 8, 2001)

There is a hospital here in Cleveland that does the upside-down V (Metro
Health Center). I know of 2 people in my support group that have had it.
One has successfully lost 125lbs. The other just had her surgery on May
30th, I visited her, saw the scar. It looked fine. More like a wide
upside-down U than an upside down V.

My incision goes horizontal, about 5 inches across my waist. The surgeon
told me he did it that way because of the way my stomach was. He said it
was a little harder to do the surgery that way, I guess to get to my
gallbladder. But I haven't had any problems wearing clothes on my waist now
that it is healed.

I had an open RNY on 4/19 and also have an upside down U or V (kinda in
between both those letters LOL. My doctor explained he does it that way so
there is less of a chance for hernias, and he does remove the gallbladder.
