Question:
Has anyone had Adjustable lap band surgery? If so, will you tell us about it?

I realize that the Food and Drug Administration has just approved the Lap-Band Adjustable Gastric Banding System, but these surgeries have been performed throughout Europe (and Canada, I believe.)    — Karen B. (posted on June 7, 2001)

I am pleased to hear that the LAP BAND has just been approved in the States. I live in Australia, and have successfully lost weight safely with the band, and laproscopic procedure, only 5 small incisions and 2(3-5cm ones). One of the important aspects for myself is that it is adjustable and the doctor can adjust the tightness, via the port site. This enables over time for greater restriction, so far for myself without problems of vomiting ect. It has been great for myself, and I know that it can be removed without any functional alterations to my stomach, at the moment I don't believe it will be removed.

I went to Monterrey Mexico and had lap-band surgery 2/27/01. As of last Saturday I have lost 94 lbs from my top weight of 404.3. This surgery eliminated the gnawing background hunger. And I feel confident I will be able to lose the rest of my excess weight. There are several bandsters list you can subscribe to where you can talk to all weights and levels of bandsters at [email protected]

Hi. I was banded on 05/08/01 in Germany. I have been extremely satisfied with my choice of surgery. I have lost, to date, more than 50 lbs (56 lbs) in 4 1/2 months...it was slower than with some of the other surgeries, I know---but it's still a lot of weight to loose. I have had 2 fills, and my restriction level is perfect at this point. My procedure was done lap, so I only have 4 tiny little scars on my stomach. I am hoping to acheive my goal weight by my one year "bandiversary". I have 53 more lbs to go! My insurance paid for the entire procedure, and since my banding, I have had two friends with the same insurance (TriCare) get banded as well! This was the best procedure for me, and I am happy with my progress. :)
