Question:
How long after surgery are you out of danger for complications?

Depends on what complications you mean. Leaks from the gastric pouch are
usually seen within 48 hours after surgery, certainly before 10 days. Wound
infections are usually seen by 2 weeks, can be as long as 4-6 weeks.
Pneumonias usually before 2 weeks, certainly before a month. Iron and
vitamin deficiencies actually become more common as time goes on, as in
years later. Hernias usually are detected before 2 years. (I could go on
and on but these are the more common complications)

Dr. Bodner, please add your city to your profile. Thanks for the post.
I did asky my surgeon yesterday this very question. He had a woman die
after two months, because she "did not move." Everybody waited on
her hand and foot, she literally "went to bed & stayed
there." She died of a pulmonary embolism. Maybe he just wanted to
stress the exercise and moving around. He told my husband to not even bring
me the tv clicker. I exercise almost daily now and I intend to increase it
after my surgery.
