Question:
Can a person with no dependants qualify for Medicaid?

My mother is 56 years old with no dependants and no insurance. She too is morbidly obese and wants to have surgery. Could she qualify for Medicaid?    — Melissa S. (posted on April 9, 2001)

That depends on quite a few things.. total income, assets etc.. and it can vary state to state. It cannot hurt to apply by all means.. or even based on her weight and possiblie dissabilities perhaps she could try to Medicare. Just be aware that Medicaid may not cover this kind of surgery as well.. I think it varies also state to state.
