Question:
Does anyone else sneeze when they eat too fast?
When I eat too fast, I start sneezing just like I do when my allergies are acting up. If I stop eating and wait for a few minutes before resuming, I can avoid the pain and vomiting that eating too fast can cause. Does anyone else have these sneezing fits? — Nanette T. (posted on September 14, 2000)

Hi there! Geez it's good to see that I am not the only person that had
this happen to. I asked my doctor and he basically laughed at me and said
that he had never heard of this. It definately happens when I eat red
meat, and also if I eat too much. I keep sneezing uncontrollably. I am SO
happy to see that someone else has experienced this too. I thought that I
was going crazy. I assume it has something to do with the air being cut
down or off in the windpipe or something but I have failed to get an answer
from a doctor and I refuse to ask about it again and get laughed at. I am
15 months post op and this doesn't happen to me half as often anymore.
Good luck to you,

I sneeze when I have eaten too much or if the food doesn't agree with my
stomach. My Dr. laughed at me and said he had never heard of it before.
Thank You for asking. I've been so CRAZY since surgery, that I thought this
was just one more symptom!!!! My Dr. doesn't think anything is wrong with
the severe pain I get when I eat. He said it is good and the surgery is
doing it's job. I'm past my goal of 140# and I'm 5 months post-op. Next
month is hernia repair, and Tummy Tuck. Good Luck and God Bless You

Thank you Nanette for your post. I truly thought I was going out of my
mind. I have a sneezing fit every time I eat something that doesn't agree
with me or if I eat too quickly. Medically, I can not come up with a good
reason for this. I planned on asking my surgeon at my next scheduled
visit. Isn't it bizarre?!? Well, at least we know we're not imagining it!
Take care and good luck!

I think both the hiccups and sneezing you experience after eating is caused
by increased pressure on your diaphram from your stomach. You may be
eating too much and/or too quickly.
