Question:
Gained 18 lbs! Help!
I had DGB surgery in 1994, went from 250 to 135, were I stayed for years. I had a baby in 1996 and weighed 145 for the next 3 years. Now, I have gained 18 pounds in about 6 months, my blood pressure is up a bit and I am having a complete coniption fit. I had a hysterectomy about 6 months ago, and since then, my weight has gone up to 163. I had the distal gastic bypass and my staple line has NOT been disrupted, does anyone have any idea why I could be gaining weight? P.S. I do NOT eat sugars. I have been so happy with the results of my surgery so far, and am just completely terrified about this recent gain. Anyone have a similar story to tell, and hopefully how to fix it? Thanks, Sharon — Sharon S. (posted on June 11, 2000)

Can you tell me by whom & when your surgery was done? If you are as
distal as I am, AND you are not using protein supplement, there could be
several reasons why the wt has returned. When did you last have labs? Are
you still in touch with your original surgeon's office? Have you found a
doctor who understands our post-op condition? I have several ideas
crashing around in my head, but need a little more info to work with.
However, I'll butt out gracefully if you'd rather not share.

I tried to post this but I don't think it took. The weight gain could be
due to taking meds and hormone therapy. This could be a temporary thing due
to the hysterectomy. Check with your doctor

Sounds to me as if the hormone replacement therapy may be the cause for
your weight gain. Some women tend to gain weight when put on HRT after a
hysterectomy or post menopausal. I would get in touch with your GYN and
ask them if this could be the cause of your weight gain. Probably once
things settle into a somewhat "normal" state, you may find that
you will lose the weight. It may just be your body reacting to the new
hormonal system. Good Luck...
