Question:
Finding coverage post-surgery for self-employed
Our current carrier is no longer providing health insurance. We are trying to locate coverage for our family. I have had NO complications from the surgery and my family has no chronic conditions. Any suggestions? — Teri L. (posted on April 26, 2000)

I am having a terrible time with getting insurance.
Anthem covered my surgery 3 years ago, I have had no complications and
never see a doctor.
I am recently divorced and have to pick up and individual policy...I
applied to Anthem and they wanted $750 a month to cover me just because I
had gastric bypass.
I am afraid I will have to go without insurnce, as I can't afford that kind
of premium.

1 - Don't go back to the same insurance company. There are many out there
to try.
2 - As long as you keep the coverage continuous, from the old company to
the new, there should be no "pre-existing" exclusions. You may
need to check the laws in your state about this.
3 - Unless the new company asks for that specific info, don't give it to
them.
Good Luck! I will be in the same boat soon.
