Barbara, I think you forgot to mention also, that you need a doctor who will accept prime care, military ins. Please guys, help her out even if it's not exactly in Mobile. This is my best friend and we are lost about BPD/DS docs in the area. In MS Dr. Booth cannot do it cause he doesn't accept this ins. Thanks you all you wonderful angels!

The next closest surgeon will probably be Dr. Dennis Smith in Marietta, Ga.. If you'd like Dr. Booth to perform your surgery, you might consider opting out of Tricare Prime and instead using Tricare Standard, with a supplemental policy. You'd still have some out-of-pocket expenses that you wouldn't face with Tricare Prime, but Dr. Booth might take Tricare Standard, since it's the old Champus indemnity coverage. It's worth asking him about. Tricare supplements typically cost in the neighborhood of $40-50 per month. I used the Tricare Std/Supplement combo with Dr. Gagner in NYC. It turned out that the hospital was 100% covered because they're a full Tricare provider. Email me if you'd like more information.

No surgeon in AL that I am aware of performs BPD/DS. If you find one, please let me know. The below post regarding Dr. Dennis Smith being the closest is correct. I spoke with Dr. Smith via email about a month ago and he indicated that he is just getting his practice set up after leaving his Biloxi, therefore his consult and surgical wait list is long. However, he will respond to your email. Reach him at [email protected]. Best wishes from another Bama Gal!

Thanks for your good advice. I called Dr Booth's office and asked him to refer me a good dr to do BPD/DS and he has recommended Dr Louis Martin in New Orleans, LA. So keep your fingers crossed. I may be on my way!

I don't have anyone particular Dr. to recommend. However, I would caution you about one "doctor". Dr. Snow. He did my sisters surgery back a few years ago and left a 10 inch laproscopic tube in her. about 2 weeks out she was at my mothers recovering and she started choking. When she finally was able to grab the object in her throat it was that tube. His reply was "oh, so that's where it went". Nothing personal, but I would stay away from him. He also doesnt have hardly any after care program. This is a very serious step and I wouldn't wish a bad surgeon on anyone. The only reason he still practices is because Alabama has horrible medical malpractice laws. Just be careful and make a prayerful decision. You can't go wrong with that. Jackie
