Hi Tracy (cool last name, by the way) - a biliary obstruction
is a very rare complication pretty specific to a BPD. As with any WLS,
adhesions
can develop in the intestine, closing off the passage and causing
a back-up. In the bile limb, this is pretty noticeable due to a
change in stool color, and it's very treatable when caught in time.
Occasionally it is fatal, which is why we all need to be vigilant
about our health. Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions, or
you may want to join the DS mailing list by sending a blank e-mail to
[email protected], or visit the DS site at
www.duodenalswitch.com. Best of luck to you!
