Question:
Why is this not more popular with docs and patients?
I am waiting approval. Meantime I am shopping surgery types. The Dist bypass w/DS sounds like the best to me, however it is disconcerting that only 1 doc in N. CAL does it. Does anybody know the negatives with this? — joroclo (posted on August 21, 1999)

Roberta, you may want to check out the duodenal switch website that is up
and running. This will answer some of your questions, and there are more
that one physician doing the DS in Cali....not sure about N. Cali. There
is a link to sign up for a mailing list. check out

Good luck to you dear and you are doing the right thing. Educate

I had this surgery done by Dr. Rabkin in California. You are right, this
does sound like the best one around. I thought it was as well, and after
hearing about the problems others have, I think it is the best. His clinic
has fantastic results, with people keeping the weight off for years (met
one who was 13 years post-op, who looked and felt fantastic). My aunt's
sister had the same surgery, same surgeon, and has nothing but praise. His
clinical case coordinator is 2-years post-op, and looks/feels fantastic.
Sure, if you eat lots of sugar stuff, you will come close to dumping, and
the pain post-op is comparable, but I really do think it is the best
surgery. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
