Question:
What is a good readily available high protein shampoo?
I never heard of "Sally's Beauty Supply" and their Nutri-Ox shampoo and conditioner so I would imagine this isn't in my area. I need something that I can purchase in a store in my area which is in Amenia, NY. Thanks so much. — Catherine B. (posted on June 14, 2005)

Here is a conditioner that is really good and you can get it online. It is
called Couvre' and you can find it here along with other great products:

When I had my WLS, I asked the lady that cuts my hair, because she had WLS
and she told me that she used Biotin shampoo. I have used Biolage since my
surgery and you can get it at Walmart, drug stores, or places like Cost
Cutters and it doesn't cost much, and works great. I also get the
detangler.

Hello,
Since this question is posted under the heading avoiding hair loss, I
thought I might offer the following information:
With the exception of Rogaine(minoxidol), there isn't anything that can be
applied to the head/hair to prevent hair loss or cause hair regrowth.
This webpage has some interesting info on hairloss, although it
specifcally addresses hair loss due to heredity and not due to dietary
defiency: http://www.drugs.com/hair-loss.html
Hair is made up of layers of dead keratinized cells... once it has left the
hair follicule (and becomes visible) it is no longer living. High protein
shampoo might make your existing hair look shinier/healthier/fuller but it
won't prevent it from falling out.
If you are losing hair due to a lack of protein, probably the only way a
high protein shampoo will help you is if you eat it. As someone who once
decided that shampoo might be tasty, I can assure it isn't! (I was 3 or 4
and the shampoo was the same color as iced tea so I thought I'd have a
little sip.. bleh!)
Nutri-Ox Shampoo sounds really expensive so I thought I would pass on the
info about hair re-growth in case you were looking for shampoo to prevent
hair loss.
On the other hand, it will probably make the hair that you already have
look nicer.
Best wishes,
Sid

Right here on this website, go to their store, and click on bath &
beauty, the top product is Bari-essentials, it is supposed to help with
hair loss because of the protein content in it. I think it is also sold at
walmart.

I use Pantene Full and Thick. I have since I was 8 months post op. It does
awesome. If you are looking for something a little more along the lines of
hair loss and regrowth, my beutician recommends Nioxin. But she says it
takes 8 months of daily use to even start to see regrowth, but once it does
start the results are excellent, according to her. I have never tried it.
