Question:
Has anyone had cholesterol spots on the eyelids?
These unsightly white spots appeared on my eyelids not long before my gastric bypass. (one on each upper eyelid) I have an appt next week to see about having them removed. Has anyone had theses spots and had them removed. Curious about the results. — Linda Brown (posted on May 2, 2005)

My mother had them on the under eye area. She chose not to have hers
removed, but the surgeon said it was a very easy procedure and could be
done in the office with a local.

Hi Linda, What I heard is: They are cholesterol spots. That doesn't mean
that you have high chol. It is just what *they* are. Some people get them
and some don't. They are *usually* passed down from male to female and then
female to son, etc. But that doesn't hold true in my family because my
maternal grandfather passed them to his daughter (my mother) and she passed
them on to my two brothers and myself (lucky me) I passed them on
to my son. I went to see an eye surgeon about having them removed because
not only are they ugly, but they weigh my eyelids down and actually pop out
my contact lenses. When I saw the eye surgeon I was only 3 months out of
WLS and he recommended that I come back after 12-18 mos post op. So, I
shall be seeing him again soon to make the surgery apt.
OH, my Mom had hers removed about two months ago and is doing real well.
The day of the removal she looked like someone hit her 100 times with a
baseball bat, now you can't even tell she had them removed and her eyes are
more open and her beautiful blue eyes sparkle now. Also had a relative
have them removed several years ago...doing great. They do say that they
can grow back over time. But I figure, hey...I am almost 51 now...if it
takes 10-20 years to grow back...so what! Hope that helped you. Did you
go for your apt. yet?
