I used to have problems with hives, but not anymore so I can't help you
there. How many days post-op are you? I got my drain tube taken out at 5
days post-op. I think it was 2 to 3 weeks post-op before I could
comfortably sleep on my stomach with one leg hiked up...the leg on the same
side my drain tube used to be. I was about 5 weeks post-op before I could
comfortably lay flat on my stomach.

I was never allergic to anything before gastric bypass, but I went to
chinese buffet in Nov. and within 30 mins I was in the ER because I
couldn't breathe because of an allergic reaction. Had hives too. I don't
even know what I'm allgeric to, they said either MSG or shellfish.

I am over 3 months out and my allergies are my only medical condition that
has gotten worse since surgery! LOL! Due to malabsorption, my allergy
pills do not work as well and now my arms are always breaking out with
stuff, my sinuses are always screwed up and my eyes are typically pretty
bad. My allergist is unfamiliar to gastric patients and is kind of confused
about the malabsorption stuff since I am on Allegra 180's and they are
water soluable, therefore should have very little malabsorption problems!
He is baffled but wants to kick up my script to a pill and a half a day!
LOL! I am thinking he might go to one in the morning and one in the
afternoon before too long!

It took about a month until I could sleep comfortably in any position I
wanted. I just woke up one day and realized I was on my belly and I wasn't
in pain! It was a great feeling.

I can't answer the sleeping on your stomach question...
As far as the hives, do you know what you are allergic to? My friend used
to get hives from stress. Could this be a cause for you?
If you can figure out what is causing the hives, you might be able to avoid
it and thus avoid the hives. There are a ton of anti-histamines available
both by perscription and over the counter. My favorite and probably the
most commonly used is Benadryl (diphenhydramine for generic). You can also
get topical (spray, cream, or gel)benadryl that you could apply directly to
your skin.

Yes Doctor said it is because we can't eat the stress away anymore. I now
walk when I get really stressed and it has helped a lot..............Peggy
