Question:
I am 3 months post op. While driving on vacation in FL. I blacked out.

I am trying to find out if anyone else has ever blacked out after surgery but never before then. I am thinking maybe low Blood pressure. All tests came up negative.    — Larry B. (posted on February 26, 2004)

Hi Larry, I am now a year post op an have felt light headed a few times to where I have felt like I am going to pass out, I think that was fue to low blood pressure or not taking my b12 shot one time because if I don't take one once a mth I get real tired and light headed, and weak, so you might want to check that out, and make sure you are getting your b12 in regularly cuz that can make you feel weak, or it could be that you have low potassium so also make sure that you tell your surgeon what is going on and see if they can run more tests on you especially if it continues to happen! Good luck to you and let us know what happens!

When I was about four or five months out, I was at a wedding and I passed out. I remember shaking very badly first and the next thing I remember two men were holding me up. I'm not sure what it came from and I've been basically fine since then. I think I had not eaten that day and had a very stressful day getting ready for the wedding. It never really happened again even though a few times I did feel faint and dizzy.

I have actually done that a couple times at work and a few times at home and it was due to severe dumping. That happened up until about my 8mo and now it has'nt happened other than just needing a nap. Hope everythings ok, good luck!

Hi, Blacking out could be related to low blood sugar. I am still preop, but I am hypoglycemic, and once during college, I blacked out on the way from one building to another and sprained both ankles, yikes! Now I carry something with me and when I start feeling faint like that, I eat or drink it. Hope this helps someone. Thanks. LM

Larry, your blood workup might have been normal when they were read, but NOT normal when you blacked out. At only 3 months (like myself) it is easy to forget to eat, because you're not hungry - also perhaps you should see an endocrinolgist who do more through and different tests. In the meantime, you might consider eating small low surger foods every 2-3 hours.

I have and sometimes everything just goes black and I start breathing really heavy and I will go dead weight but I don't 'black out'. Most of the time when it happens it is because I have forgot to give myself my B-12 shot or because I haven't eaten (low blood sugar). You should have MORE tests ran to make sure EVERYTHING is okay NOW.
