Question:
FEELS LIKE ROCKS IN MY TUMMY
I am 8 weeks post op and down 49lbs. I have been eaing solid food since I was 6 weeks and I have been eating meats since 7 weeks. I have not vomited or felt ill but a lot of the times I feel like when my food hits my stomach it feels like a pile of rocks!! Thats the only way I can explain it. It sits very hard on my tummy, especially meats. Its just uncomfortable. I chew VERY well and I take baby bites. I called my doctor yesterday and he said that it is something (new foods) my new tummy will have to get use to, cause its like a babys stomach. My question is~~ WHEN WILL THE FEELING STOP? I mean how long does this last? Sorry this is so long, but any input will be appreciated. Thanks for your time. : ) — Jackie T. (posted on August 22, 2003)

I feel like that right now. I am 8 weeks out. You said you chew well, so
this doesn't apply but I feel that exact feeling if I eat deli meats or I
don't chew well enough. I stop eating after I feel it. I hope it passes
too! Maybe my stomach just doesn't like meat. I know it loves soft foods:
cottage cheese, refried beans, etc.

I am 8 weeks too....down 50 pounds and when I eat meat (chicken, hamburg,
fish, etc.) it feels like a big ole rock in my stomach! I chew and chew
and chew! I'm to the point where I avoid those kinds of foods. Today was
the first time that I actually vomited. I had one quarter of a beef and
bean burrito and I felt so sick on the ride home from the restaurant!

Hi, I'm 4mo out RNY and 100# down. I didn't really have that feeling too
much except when I ate too fast. I felt like my food would get stuck and my
stomach felt very irritated like the rock feeling that you explain. Try to
pay attention to how fast you are eating and see if that makes a
differance. Good luck to you.

Jackie, I'm currently 1 year post-op (as of 8/20/03)and I too get this
feeling. So if you're looking for an answer of when this will stop???...my
guess is that it is something we will have to learn to live with. I just
saw my doctor on Wednesday and they told me the same thing your doctor told
you. Our bodys have certainly changed, but so have our eating habits.
Sometimes I think we forget that we've had the surgery and no matter how
good we think we are chewing our food it could always be the types of foods
we are eating too. I wish you the best in getting thru this and hope for
you it does subside, but by the looks of how long I've had this
happening....well, chances are it won't get better. Open RNY 8/20/02 -142

I agree that it is something you may have to live with...for now! A year
from now it will likely be very different. Meanwhile, softer nutritious
foods--fish, cheese, beans, etc.--are excellent sources of protein. Try
backing off all the foods that you have to chew chew chew and give your
tummy a rest for another few months. Good luck!!!
