Question:
Help, still have open incision and 41/2 months PO not loosing
Iam becoming more and more depressed. Not only do I still have an open incision area but I believe I can eat to much (always was even after surgery) and I have only lost 40 pounds and it has stopped. I haven't lost anything in a month.I exercise 3-4 times a week, 30 min. at a time and pretty much just walking becasue of the incision. My worst fear is the surgery wasn't right and I can't stand the thought of having to do it again! Help, any suggestions???????? I have been through heck and hope this wasn't for nothing! — Tamala T. Tamala, I had an open incision for 3 1/2 months, it leaked incessantly, it
will eventually close up, I promise although you may not beleive it at this
point. Have you expressed your concerns and fears to your dtr, how about
to your nutrionist? How many calories arte you eating, you might not be
eating enough, at 4 1/3 mos out, I would think you should be at at least
800 per day, are you eating protein first? We need a little more info.

Have you talked to your surgeon about your concerns? Some people lose more
slowly than others. Be patient, stick to the program ... it will come off.
Hope you feel better soon.

Hi I had my surgery April 7th of 2003 and have lost 40lbs also. My Dr. told
me I was right on track. Give it time 40lbs is good.

Hi Tamala, I met you in Dr. Gomez office at our last checkups, I am down
only 43# and I too ws stuck on a plateau for the last 3 weeks, it finally
broke the other day and I upped my water and my protien, I too was worried
but many people with our beginning weights are right in line with us. I
also cut back almost all carbs, and made sure I only ate 2 oz every 2 hours
for a total of 6 meals a day, if your exercising more, and not eating the 6
mini meals a day he wants us to you body thinks its starving, and is
hanging on, try the steps above and hopefuly it will work. I see him next
week so I hope to be down a few more pounds. Good luck :0)

It's got to be very frustrating for you. I can only immagine how I would be
reacting if I were in your shoes. Lightweights tend to loose slower than
heavyweights. I'm 12 weeks out, and only down 54 lbs, and one of my
co-workers is 16 weeks out and down 101 lbs.(his starting weight was 450.
my starting weight was 291).Are you getting in enough protien water carbs
and fats? You should be getting 50-70 g protien, 20-40 g carbs, and 64-80
oz water. (easier said than done for me. i hate the taste of water :~| )
you should also be getting 3 tsp of fat (olive oil is one of the best) a
day as well. If you are, then I would suggest taking your concerns to the
doctor, or possibly seeing a nutritionist. I agree with some of the
posters. If you don't get in enough, your body goes into hybernation mode,
and you won't loose. You can also look at it this way. it's 40 lbs that are
gone gone gone, never to be seen again. As to the incision not healing, the
only thing I can say it that it will take time to heal. :( Good luck with
your journey, and remember if you need to vent, that's what we are here
for!
