I use splenda post op. The others tend to give me headaches. I also
"think" I have less cravings when I use the splenda...but that
could be al in my head!!

No problems with artificial sweetners, the reason they are called
"ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS" are because they are not as sweet..11.5
months post-op

haha (Rhonda) I've found that most artificial sweeteners tend to be MORE
sweet and takes less than sugar :>)) But Yup, they're fine to use since
they are lower in calories and carbs than the real stuff. Splenda always
gets my vote!

Hi! They are fine, just be careful at first... some of those sweeteners
make me sick... Splenda is the only one I have found that doesn't do that
to me. Good Luck!

A few things to consider about using artificial sweeteners (which I use a
lot of given how much coffee I drink): (1) they contain carbs so you need
to count them in your daily total and (2) one study indicated that as
people used more artificial sweetener (in other words making their coffee
sweeter than usual after WLS) they tended to fall of the wagon sooner as
the "sweet" taste may trigger in some carb cravings.

One thing I've learned from dieting all these years is that artificial
sweeteners SLOW weight loss. You should limit them to 2 packets per day.
I believe that is not the case with Splenda as it is a natural sweetener
derived from sugar.

Well Ruth, I have to agree with Rhonda. (ha ha) I too have found that these
artifical sweetners are NOT as sweet. ;) They say one package is equal to
two teaspoons. BULL! I usually use double whatever they say with ANY
sweetner. Splenda is the best as usually a teaspoon is equal to a teaspoon.
But Splenda is alot of money so I get the box (not packets) and "save
it just for cooking". For little packets, I go to Aldis and get a box
of the Sweet Harvest apertane sweetner. A box is around $1.69 and lasts a
long time and I use lots of it. It can't beat Splenda in taste, but it is
pretty good and so I save the Splenda for baking. This way I save money. In
my case I put the sweetner in diet pop to make it sweeter like regular and
to take out the fiz. So I go though alot of sweetner. But I've found these
sweetners trigger sugar and carb cravings so I'm not sure they are all that
good (for me anyway). Perhaps there is something to it slowing down weight
loss. I'm almost 26 months out and still 30+ pounds from goal.

Try using fructose. It is natural fruit sugar and is available in the
diabetic section. Looks and tastes like sugar but is OK with RNY'ers. See
my profile page or www.freewebs.com/recipes-after-rny for recipes and
photos. Good luck!

Just a warning - many of us have our appetite stimulated by some (or all)
artificial sweeteners - ever notice how hungry you feel about ten minutes
after consuming them? I don't know if all sweeteners do that - my worst
problem is with Aspertame (Equal, Nutrasweet...) I also noticed it with
Splenda! Would love to know if any are safe AND non-appetite-stimulating -
but NOT from someone selling the product. Any totally objective answers?
Good luck -

Try STEVIA. You can find it at GNC or The Vitamin Shoppe. I was told
about this by my nutritionist. It's an all natural sweetner that contains
NO carbs. I use it everyday and if you combine it with a pack of
sweet-n-low or equal, it has a very sugary taste. YUMMMMMMM
