Question:
Post Op Addiction to orange juice???
I have never even liked OJ, had is pre op maybe 2x a year and NOW post op I crave it all the time!. I can't really have much because of all the sugar but I was wondering if this signified anything internally or if anyone else had this craving... thanks in advance! — Becky F. Becky, I've wondered this same thing from time to time... I haven't had
surgery yet, but when I get a sore throat I crave OJ like you couldn't
believe. I litterally drink a gallon of it a day or more if I have a sore
throat... same thing with bananas and peanut butter, if I get a migraine, I
crave these like I'll never have the opportunity to have one again as long
as I live... I've often wondered if it has something to do with my body
telling me I'm lacking something. Anyway, I'm interested in hearing what
others have to say about this. :) ~ Kim ~

I had cravings for OJ post-op as well. Our dietitian suggested having diet
FLAT orange soda. I would open a can of Hansen's Diet Tangerine & Lime
soda at night and put it in the frig. It would be nice and cold ready to
drink in the morning. Hansen's is great as there are no additives and very
low sodium.

I have always been addicted to OJ, so I don't know why you are having
sudden cravings. I do know that regular OJ really burns as a post op so I
now drink Tropicana Low Acid. I seem to tolerate it pretty well, if I have
a sensitive tummy day I just add a bit of water.

Hello! Yup, I, too crave OJ. I have to have at least 8 ounces everyday or
every other day. I used to have a craving for milk, too. That went away.
However, I think that it has to do with that I get tired of drinking plain
water. I have tried 0 calorie beverages, Crystal Light, etc., I just don't
like them. Believe it or not, Crystal Light is too sweet for me. I don't
crave OJ as badly as two months ago. It may be a phase we are going
through. Good luck to you in your journey! Daphine Cox (Open RNY

Yes, I used to crave OJ...It's really weird..I go thru little spirts of
"cravings". First is was OJ, then watermelon, then grapefruit,
pickles, sugar free popsicles...now it's fresh pineapple - and only fresh.
I gotta cut up the actual pineapple myself or I don't want it. It's so
strange the way things taste post-op compared to pre-op. The weirdest
cravings I've had since being post-op was 1) Sushi, and only because I
absolutely hated it before; and 2) whole wheat toast with peanut butter and
dill pickle chips...and I wasn't pregnant! LOL It's normal, just ride the
wave! Good luck! Denise 316/153

I know it's not the same thing, but why not try SF Tang instead? If you
can't find it in the stores near you, you can get it at Netgrocer.com. At
least it's sugar free and won't stall your weight loss.

This is to funny. I thought I was the only one who craved OJ. I couldn't
get enough. It does pass and you will get craving for other things along
the way. Mine now is Cheez-it ruduced fat. It's alot of sugar but it
won't last long.

Here's a suggestion: www.ishophere.biz sells this protein mix that comes
in orange or orange-pineapple. While not nearly as good as real OJ, the
drinks are some of the better protein supps I've tried. Maybe that would
help cut down on the cravings.

Yes! OJ and cottage cheese were the things I wanted the most!!! But you
do get over it :) And you move on to other things. Then it was
ChefBOyardee Ravioli, then chicken salad, then scrambled eggs and now it's
grilled chicken. You'll do great - if you want it have it! Unless it
makes you sick.

I ALWAYS crave OJ after any surgery. There is something about surgery that
puts me on an OJ binge. As a post op, I like to drink 60% water to 40% OJ.
Then I put in lots of Splenda. This tastes fabulous (to me) and I don't
think there is much sugar in deluting it with so much water. Plus it is a
good way to get extra water in. Personally I think we could crave much
worse drinks. ;)

16 months post op and I am still craving OJ. I never use to drink it
before this surgery. I drink it very diluted. Have a glass about every
other day. I always buy the OJ that has double calcium.
