Question:
What are the best protein shakes and vitamins. Where can I find them.

The best protein shakes are the ones that you can tolerate and will
actually use daily. Vitamins the same thing. I take a prenatal capsule (2
per day) because all of the chewable were yucky to me. I also have been
drinking Real Meals shakes since one week post op and I like them. You are
going to get a million different answers to this question because it is all
about you and not the shake, though I do believe that whey protein far
surpasses soy or any other kind of protein. Good Luck! I did not check to
see if you were pre op but what tasted good pre op was a whole different
thing post op so try until you find what works for you post op.

I have ordered the sample pack of Realmeals to try. I have tried MetRx
Extreme Chocolate from GNC which was ok. But they make 16 oz at a time.

For Vitamins I take Bariatric Lifestyle Complete Nutrition System. They
only cost around $9 a month and it is just two chewables a day. But they
have a lot more vitamins and minerals than Flinstones or Centrum. For
protein I like Real Meals the best it has more protein than any other shake
made 60 grams. So you can split it into two mini shakes a day. It also
has over 40 other vitamins including the biggies for us calcium and b12.
You can get the vitamins and the Real Meals at www.protein-solution.com
there are also recipes there for protein shakes and a comparison chart of
all of the most popular protein products available.

IMHO, SOME of the best are: Pro Score 100, Pro Blend 55, Pro Cal 100, Real
Meals (one of many that is basically good at supplying all of the necessary
Amino Acids)-if used consistently. Each packet is conveniently wrapped with
sort of like a "zip-lock" pouch. Available in Chocolate and
Vanilla~has a variety of great recipes, too). If you have a minimal amount
of weight to lose, you may not necessarily have to have a TT, or panni~it
all depends on your body build and how the adipose tissue (also known as
cellulite) is distributed.
Also, there's Sci Fit Whey Protein, Amino Fusion, Designer Whey Protein
Blasts and Designer Whey Protein Powder supplements, and I liked Isopure
Zero Carb drinks=this is just like kool-aide as well. Put some ice in it,
and sip (not gulp) on it all day. Finally, I liked Lean Body by
Labrada-samples of these came from my surgeon's office. The distribution
company has ice cream flavors to die for!! Let us not forget Nectar. There
are sssooo many to chose from. I tried Real Meals first, (and that doesn't
mean you have to follow suit-Real Meals now have chewable vitamins as
well). I'm getting an order ready for "The Vitalady"-long overdue
for the Cheramino and *other healthy goodies*. Which is something else some
posties say tastes yukky. Not the best tasting, but for me it's tolerable
and it's cherry-flavored which is okay by me because I never liked
powdery-tasting protein supplements anyway. Whey protein, from my
association with a friend who is a certified bodybuilder/weight
trainer/physiologist is best for women...??..You might want to just shop
around. Michelle Curran and Linda Almonte are those who has the real
"low-down" on both Pro Score 100, etc=Michelle Curran is VERY
knowledgeable about protein, and Real Meals-Linda Almonte has her gift of
knowledge in the Amino Acids/Branch Chain stuff. I will soon divulge to the
AMOS community of my knowledgeable areas. Oh, there are MANY OTHERS in this
community of brothers and sisters who are also quite knowledgeable, these
are the ones I've dealt with wand with whom I have corresponded with. This
website is FULL of talent and information!! Now, hopefully no one get's all
excited and bent out of shape for me making these suggestions and being in
support of our "sisters" in the AMOS community. After all, this
is an online support group, right? Anita, It's all ABOUT YOU and actually
what YOU like, your needs, what you can tolerate and what you cannot
tolerate. Each of us has our own particular "tastes". I,
personally fell in love w/Pro Score 100, Sci Fit Whey Protein, Designer
Whey Protein Blasts (add just a little water and ice, and you'd think you
were drinking kool-aide. Real Meals is also tasty, BUT, I had to add a
litytle more water than the instructions called for; especially to the
chocolate-flavored=it's sweet. Like Carol mentioned, you will see a variety
of likes on this board. It's personal preference. May I make a couple of
suggestions? go to http://www.vitalady.com, www.protein-solutions.com. You
can email if you desire for additional sites. Enough of my rambling...Hope
this helps! Didn't mean to write 3/4ths of a manuscript!! lol...LAP RNY
9/3/02 265/158/115-126...and on a stupid plateau right now. GGGGRRRR!!

I recommend that you take a look at wlssuccess.com or vitalady.com for
samples of various protein powders (in individual sizes) and vitamins. I
use Proscore 100 Chocolate whey protein powder (2 shakes a day, with
water), and 1500 mg. of calcium citrate with Vitamin D and magnesium added
(in three capsules, spread out throughout the day, @ 500 mg. of calcium
citrate apiece), plus 2 chewable Centrum adult multivitamins a day, plus a
prescription iron/B complex pill called Trinsicon (which I take with an
over-the-counter Vitamin C pill to help the iron absorb better), plus an
occasional B-12 sublingual "dot" (pill under the tongue) from
GNC.<P>Some general rules I've learned about vitamins & protein
shakes: (1) You should try to keep your iron and calcium away from each
other, meaning don't take an iron supp. or calcium supp. within two hours
of the other -- one will negatively affect absorption of the other if taken
too close together; (2) You cannot absorb more than 30 grams of protein in
one shake, so anything extra per serving is wasted (and wait at least an
hour, preferrably at least two, between shakes); (3) Calcium citrate can't
be absorbed efficiently in doses of more than 500 mg. at a time, so if you
take 1500 mg. a day, you'll need to break it up in three doses.

I have been taking Real Meals for protein and Bariatic Lifestyle vitamins
from the start. They are inexpensive and I get everything I need. Here is
a link to their website. They have samples there too.

go to www.vitalady.com. She has sample packets so you can try several and
see which ones you like. She also has all the vitamins you need at a far
less price than some of the ones mentioned here.

Well I have tried them all and they all disguisted me until I tried the
Designer Whey Protien Blast. They come in flavors like orange, tropical,
kiwi strawberry and more. They remind me of gatorate but stronger. I
drink them in a large glass of ice and add about a half cup of water to
thin it out. It is the best by far and most palatable. You can find them
at your local GNC store and they are cheap. 40-50 grams of protien and it
is pretty tasty.

My nutritionist recommends Real Meals, I have been taking them for months.
At our support group meeting last week she was also giving out samples of
their new vitamins, she said that they had a better vitamin and mineral
profile than childrens chewables. There is usually a banner floating
around here somewhere that links to the site to order. Sometimes you need
to hit refresh a couple of times.

Personally I take Real Meals and their vitamins. I ordered them after
checking the nutrition forum on this site and reading good reviews. Here
is a link to the Real Meals reviews. You might want to check other ones
too http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/product-detail.phtml?pid=527
Also, when they came out with the new vitamins I emailed the company and
asked for a free sample and they sent me one within a couple of days. The
website is www.protein-solution.com

If you just want to run down to WalMart instead of ordering online, I liked
the CarbSolutions in cappuccino and chocolate and the AdvantEdge in
chocolate and strawberry cream (NOT the pineapple orange PTOOEY!). Just
make sure to buy the ready made shakes--they are MUCH better than the
powder. Also, the Atkins ready made shakes are not bad.

I get all my vitamins and protein supplements from www.vitalady.com. She's
very reasonable and very knowledgeable (with being one of us and she's 9+
years postop she's got more life experience than anyone else I know).

I prefer three different sources of protein, Ultra Pure Protein in cans,
Nectar very berry and Pure Protein bars. I purchase them in bulk from
www.netrition.com...very good prices and a very large selection.
