Question:
Anyone else that just doesn't *like* to eat anymore?
I am ten months post op and for the last month or so I have just NOT wanted to eat. It took me several months to even get my appetite back after surgery, and I've battled this off and on the whole time. But it's gotten worse lately. It's like taking out the trash..I just eat it because it has to be done. Occasionally something will sound good to me..and I usually treat myself when it does, but usually there is nothing that sounds good. I'm not really depressed right now and nothing's phsycially wrong..I don't get sick or anything when I eat, I just don't like eating much anymore. Anyone else having this problem and what are you doing about it? — sheltie (posted on April 4, 2003)

Stacey, I have the same problem. No depression, but just plain no hunger.
Period. Not ever. I never thought in a million years that I would have THIS
side affect from the surgery. Food is just an incidental thing to me now. I
like the taste of food, but there is no appetite. In fact I had to do a 72
hour fast and it was a breeze. The lack of hunger does not bother me
personally... it only seems to bother my friends and family. And I would
imagine that my doc will not be thrilled either when I go for my one-year
check up and report the 450-calorie/day average. If someone is not around
me at a meal time I will not eat at all because it simply does not occur to
me to have a meal.
I wish I could help you- I just wanted you to know you are not alone. It is
a comfort to know that someone else is having the same problem I am. I am
anxious to see more replies to your post.
I have a lot of post-op friends locally, and not a single one in the same
boat.
Good luck!

Stacey,I am a little over 3 months post op and I dont really get hungry..I
just eat because I am supposed to. I think my problem is I am bored with
what I can eat. Eating is just not fun any more!!I dont think if I could
have Steak and Pizza I would be excited either though!!!

lol. well, not really a problem in and of itself i don't guess..i just tend
to lose more when I actually *eat*..starvation mode and all that. not that
my weight loss is bad. also, i worry about getting malnourished down the
road. . it's kinda of a psychological mind thing I guess..it doesn't seem
"right." wish they could have done surgery on my head too!

consider yourself lucky and be aware its only temorary:( Before you know it
mild hungre will return and your ability to eat more will increase. Then
you will be back complaining or scared of this. Believe me I KNOW. Give it
time by 6 months or so it will change.
