Question:
Has anyone experienced lots of uncontrollable sneezing post-op?
Since the day after my Surgery (Dec 23,2002 - down 80 lbs!) I have had fits of uncontrollable sneezing and running nose. It happens about 3 or 4 days a week. I rarely had problems sneezing prior to surgery, my Doctor says its unrelated to the surgery (Open RNY), but I find it mighty odd that it started right after surgery and persists. If anyone has experienced this can you share what you do to control it. Thanks — George B. (posted on March 27, 2003)

I don't know what causes it, or how to stop it, but I wanted to let you
know you're not alone! I've had the exact same problem!

Me too!!! One of my post op girlfriends has the same thing as well. It is
funny. I wake the kids up in the morning with it. I find if I blow my nose
it stops it most of the time.

Count me in the sneezing club. I'm 3 months out (lap rny). The first two
weeks I didn't sneeze at all - I think my body knew it was too traumatized
to sneeze. After that I sneezed alot, especially right after eating. The
sneezing has waned recently.

Oh, this scares me... I've already sneezed myself into a big enough hernia
that I may have to have an open surgery next Tuesday. Maybe since I've
been sneezing for the past several years, I'll stop??? I'll be watching
this topic anxious to see how others that are post-op respond.

I am in the uncontrollable sneezing club also.I have always had terrible
allergies, but since surgery the sneezing is out of control. The craziest
thing is when I get full I sneeze 3 times in a row.It lets me know I am
done eating put down the fork...

I sneeze when I am just about full. Not all the time, but enough to
notice it. I asked two surgeons, and neither had an explanation. My only
thought is that perhaps after surgery, we are a little more sensitive to
smells.

I'm NOT alone on this one!!! My hernia is killing me! I never thought it
was WLS related! oh, and the runny nose!

My sister had told me that when she felt like she was really full she would
start sneezing. I noticed that when I was full, I wouldn't sneeze, but my
nose would get extremely itchy as if I was going to sneeze. This is an
interesting thing!

Hi, yes I sneeze and hiccup. My nose is very runny, and usually I throw-up.
I am 7 weeks post-op.
