Question:
5 Weeks Post Op, would like to hear positive reports from long term post ops.

I am only 5 weeks post-op and I do love this website but I read about so many complications and other negative things, that I am really scared of what can happen to me. I would like to hear from post-ops with some positive feed back to help calm my fears. Thank you so much.    — Donna B. (posted on March 23, 2003)

2 years out on June 26th. Down 170 pounds. At goal weight. No complications. Never even thrown up once. Exercise is the key to toning and maintaining! I thought I was a slow loser, thought I'd stretched my pouch, thought I'd be the only one it would fail, thought I'd have a blood clot, all the stuff that goes thru everyone's head. I still am very mindful of malabsorption and make sure I do protein drinks, and vitamins and get my bloodwork checked quarterly and get copies of the reports so I can compare. My iron is low pretty consistenly but I was anemic before surgery so that's not a big surprise. I'm very happy with the results. Currently pursuing plastic surgery but I'm not in a huge hurry. I'll get it when I can afford it. I'm fortunate (thanks to exercise and where my fat was) that even after 170 pounds I don't have a lot of loose skin (clothes on of course). Good luck, God bless, and you'll do fine!

Hi, I am 11 months out. The first couple of months you will have ups and downs. Don't let them discourage you because soon enough you will start to notice the changes in yourself and the things you can do. Then there is no looking back and no slowing down because you will start to live life and have fun! Look to the future, It's only going to get better!

Almost 14 months post-op, and 7 pounds from goal! I had a very early complication , but once I got past that, it has really been a great experience. I can eat just about anything I want, and do, just small amounts. And today I bought my first pair of size 10 pants!! Since your already post-op, what kind of fears do you have?

Almost 10 months out, no complications from WLS except for temporary hair loss that lasted about a month (and never showed). Never hurled, never dumped. Down 124 pounds, reached goal a month ago.

I am eighteen months post-op open RNY. I am down 135# have gone from a size 24 to a size 6 with no complications, minimal hair loss, and I am healthier than I have ever been in my life. Exercise is crucial. Reconstruction happens the first week in May. I am still married; my children still love me; and my thin friends have been more supportive than my fat ones--who knew? One downer--I have to be careful who I flirt with now. Some of them take me seriously.

8.5 yrs. Lost 150#, putting me at 110-115. Those pounds have not found me yet. There have been trade-offs, but definitely worth it. I would do it again And again. And again, if needed.
