Question:
What is a mono pubis procedure
Yesterday on the message board I saw that someone was getting a mono pubis procedure done. What is that? Does insureance pay for it? — Cameron Van Winkle (posted on March 4, 2003)

Cameron, it's actually called the mons pubis. (Not the mom's pubis either,
as my husband thought LOL...he said something one day about his dad's pubis
and it cracked me up.) Anywho, the mons pubis is that puffy pubic/vaginal
region. Mine is really bad since I had a C-section bikini cut 17 years ago,
then got MO instead of just obese. Now that I've lost 117 pounds, I have
not only a saggy belly (panni), but also this puffy mound of skin below the
C-section scar...and it looks disgusting, is very difficult to shave and
hinders certain private issues. You can find pictures at the plastic
surgery support group on Yahoo! I had a member there send me pics of her
before & after from mons pubis repair. What a difference! She said her
PS removed 1 to 2 pounds of fat from the area. I can tell the puffiness in
a swimsuit...skinny legs now longing for a "flat crotch."
Insurance often pays for it with good pictures and supporting letters from
PCP, OB/GYN, etc. - Anna LAP RNY 7/3/02 -117lbs.

Mons pubis is the pad of fat above a woman's vagina. Just like other body
parts, it can become saggy with weight loss. Usually during an
abdominoplasty a doctor will pull this area up so you get the benefits of
two procedures with one or you can have a pubic lift with or without
liposuction if this area causes a problem and you want it taken care of.

I call this area my "butt in the front" LOL my stomach is getting
better as I lose weight, but that doesn't seem to be! Anyway, some
insurances can cover procedures like that, and just as the previous poster
said, many surgeons lift it up during a panni or abdom. If your insurance
does cover it (check with the guidelines) you usually have to have hanging
skin that causes rashes or infections or discomfort of some kind.

O.K. now you've done it! I think now I have had every question hiding in
the back of my mind answered. Thank you for addressing this very sensitive
issue and in such a tasteful way.

Its often called a "crotch lift" - that may help you find more
info on it. I doubt insurance would pay for it being done by itself but it
is important if you're the one who feels deformed by it. Everyone should
definitely talk to their PS before they have their tummy tuck. Its so easy
to have it done at the same time as it uses the same lower incision above
your crotch. I had to wait for mine and go back for a touch up - that was
part of it. And I'm so happy I had it done. Before having it taken care
of it affected the pants I could wear and I always felt self conscious
about it.
