My surgeon's fee was $4000 and my hospital stay was something like $20,889
and the anesthesiologist was something like $2500. I think the pre-surgery
testing was something like $976. Luckily I had an HMO at the time that
picked up all but $50.

My hospital bill, including operating room, recovery room, and 2 days was
about $10,500. Surgeon fee was $5600. Anestheologist was about $1400. I
feel like I had the best care in the world. Preop testing - mine was high
- but it all depends upon what you need done. Would be glad to share where
I had my surgery done.

In Little Rock Ark. Dr Baker has a complete package for
11,600.00 to 12,700.00 for open RYN the price varies depending on if your
gallbladder has already been removed or not and what kind of pain med. you
decide on. This includes a 7 day hospital stay if needed, also includes all
pre-op testing. They will give you 2 dates one is pre-op the other surgery
& they do this all in the same week. Call his office they will e-mail
you a packet, fill out the paperwork, mail it to them, when they get it
they will call you with the 2 dates. I'am now waiting on my dates. Dr John
Baker's ph# is 501-221-9175 . Hope this is helpful!!!

I had my open RNY in Wichita Falls, Texas by Dr. Kenneth Warnock. The
total for the surgery was about $21,000. But I had to stay in the hospital
a couple of extra days as I had a complication with my knee that had
nothing to do with the surgery. Fortunately for me, it was covered by my
insurance. I would highly recommend Dr. Warnock - he is fabulous. I think
the hospital was about $13,000 and that was for 5 days.
Good luck to you.

My best friend and I both went to the same hospital and had the same doctor
within 4 weeks of each other. She was selfpay and I was insured. They
gave her a flat fee (everything, surgeon hospital etc) for 30k. My bill,
for all the exact same stuff, was 86k. Sometimes it's not hard to see why
insurance companies start screaming and we bear the brunt of that.

I stayed a week in the hospital, and my bill totaled about $40,000.
Fortunately for me, I came out of surgery with a lot less than when I went
in.

I felt compelled to answer this since I just received a n itemized bill in
the mail from my hospital. I almost fell over when I read it. I stayed in
the hospital for 3 days and my total was only $14,000. Of which, my
insurance was billed in the 10,000 range (cant remember the exact figure)
My insurance covered the surgery in full except for a $300 co-pay. Now, up
till now I had always read figures more like what was posted below. Then,
along came this bill. I don't know what to think about this. But, it
looks like my surgery was a 'bargain'! So, does this mean that if I had
self paid, that is the amount they would have charged me? I don't get it,
but, whatever the scenario, that was one good price.

My total bill was $56,000+

The strange part of seeing my bills come in is that it appears what is
billed to insurance will be less than the "deal" worked out for
the self-pays. This I cannot figure out.

Hospital stay, OR room etc. $13,840. Surgeon's bill $12,000 plus
$1,230 for g-tube. Internist's hospital bill $288, Pulmonologist's
hospital bill $530. I don't have the anesthesiest's bill yet but I expect
it to be around $2000. While this adds up to $29,888 the surgeons are only
expecting to receive $6000 of the $12,000. They actually have two
bariatric surgeons do the surgery and each bills $6000 but bill with a
modifier code that says each should be paid 50%. The other $6000 total
write-off I am sure is all a tax write-off. So if you take the $6000 off
the total comes to $23,888. If you add in the pre-op testing they required
that was $1660 hospital and $158 internist and about another $300 for
pulmonologist to read breathing tests and pre-op appointment with the
surgeon. So that would make a grand total of $26,006. The self-pays are
charged a flat fee of $26,000. However, I am not sure that includes the
pre-op stuff because they made some comment about most insurances would
cover that stuff because it could be considered routine tests. Even if it
turns out equal it is unbelievable as usually the self-pays are offered a
considraly cheaper deal. It also may be possible that their plan does
cover up to 5 days for that fee and if I had been in 5 days my costs would
have been higher.

I can't believe when I see some costs in the $80,000's. That is
totally insane. No doctor or hospital is worth that for a run-of-the-mill
