I had a proximal on July 15th of 2002. I am 7 months out and have lost 132
pounds. I started at 360 pds. and now weigh 228. I still have 60 more
pounds to lose and was told I needed the distal however, my surgeon only
does proximals too. I am glad I had it. I think walking helps me alot and
to lose 132 pounds in 7 months tells me the proximal is a good thing along
with the distal.

Hi Pam, I had a proximal RNY and am very happy with it. My starting weight
was 315lbs. I am 5'6" and 34 years old. I will a year post op on
March 13th and have lost 115lbs. I discussed with my surgeon which he
would do Proximal or Distal. He said as far as long term results there is
not a huge difference in weight loss. The only really big differences is
how much nutrients that you absorb out of your food and vitamines that you
take. He prefers the proximal, and said that it cause less mal absobtion
in the long run. I am extremely happy with my surgery and results. Hope
this helps. Hugs and smiles..

I'm a proximal lap RNY. Started at 278 at 5'8". One year post op,
I'm at 162 (a loss of 116 pounds). Weight loss was slower for me than
others, but it was steady. Also, I never actually added any formal
exercise to my program. I'm very happy with the results. Only took a year
to go from Morbidly Obese BMI of 42 to Ideal BMI of 24.
