Question:
Leader of WLS Support Group would like to hear from other leaders
I am the leader of a WLS Support Group in Southern Indiana and am interested to hear how other support groups are ran. I would like to keep things interesting for both pre-op and post-op members without leaving anyone out. Would welcome any suggestions or comments. Thanks! — woods2104 (posted on February 10, 2003)

Hi Vicki,
I'm a co-leader for our group - we have 4 co-leaders... It's best to share
the responibilities among the group. We do not charge and anyone can
attend - several doctors are represented at all meetings.
We've only had a couple opportunites that presented themselves for
improvement overall... one being that we have newbies who come and ask the
same questions over and over - which tends to take a lot of time
reanswering the same questions. It's been suggested that we break into 2
groups - same meeting date/just different rooms - we're addressing that
issue now. It's more for the "graduates" benefit than for anyone
elses.... sometimes answering the same things deliquishes our time from
addressing the graduates concerns.
As for our discussions... other than the newbie questions we pretty much
keep it an open forum. At least 2 of us co-leaders bring in special topics
of interest to assist keeping the meeting moving along.
