Question:
Anyone not have a pouch after their surgery?
Has anyone here been told they will not even have a pouch at all after surgery? If so, how does this work? thanks, Lesa — Lesa B. (posted on January 30, 2003)

I technically have a pouch; but because of a large stoma (from day one of
surgery) I have NO pouch function; so in essence - 'no pouch'... what does
that mean for me? I had the RNY; it means I have NO food limitations...
where as 99% of post RNY can eat 'a little' - IF I let myself I can eat
ALOT! so if you are having an RNY (which you didnt state) you will have NO
HELP in limiting your food intake. The 'malabortion' part of the RNY
continues to work... I did loose weight. BUT it has made it very difficult
to maintain. I have yet to 'come to terms' with pre eating habits.
I would be concerned with NO pouch.... IF food isnt going into a pouch it
is going direcly into your intestines, and intestines can "grow"
and take in the alot of foood.....

Lesa, I can't imagine being told that you would not have a pouch. What did
the surgeon say you will have in its place? Pouch is the term phrased for
our new little tummys and with the exception of the previous poster
discussing no pouch function (technically she still has a pouch), we all
get a pouch of varying sizes.
