Question:
How noisy is the CPAP machine?
Curious as to how noisy the CPAP machine is....I'm concerned that if my son awakens during the night and hollars for me, I won't be able to hear him and respond. — Dragon G. (posted on January 26, 2003)

Very quiet hum. Whisper. If I walekd into the room, I couldn't always
tell if my husband's was on.

I've been using a CPAP for several years. I've had roommates (on trips)
who have said they can't even tell it's on. I am able to easily hear my
radio come on in the morning and to hear my dog when she starts scratching
the side of the bed in the morning. I think you'll be fine.

Not bad at all...people pay $$$ for "white noise" machines. Here
you can get insurance (hopefully) to pay for it. I'm hopefully going to
get off mine soon (my promise to myself to have a repeat sleep study done
when I get down to 250 - only 35 more pounds to go). My only concern is
whether my wife can sleep with it off - she's gotten used to the sound over
the last 10 years *G*!!! JR

Todays CPAPs are nearly silent. Sometimes when I accidently turned it on,
I won't even hear it until the warning beeps sound. When I first went on
the CPAP about 5 years ago, my respitory therapist told me that many of her
older clients with the older machines have built an enclosed cubby hole in
the wall near their bed and placed the machine behind that because they
were so noisy.

I have CPAP and I can tell you with certainty that I can hear my 4 & 6
year-olds with out ANY problem. I can even hear my husband snoring, too!
Most of the time my if I've gone to bed before my husband and the room is
dark when he comes to bed, he has no idea whether the machine is on or
off...it's that quiet!

My husband had a 10 year old RemStar that used to be quiet, but now that I
listened to my Dad's new one, the RemStar is noisy. My hubby just got a
NEW DeVilbiss and it is amazingly quiet.
