Question:
I have BC/BS of Al through Mercedes. Does anyone have any experience with getting
approval with them. How strict are they on the supervised diet thing? Thanks Jackie — jackie F. (posted on January 15, 2003)

Jackie, I have BCBS of Alabama and they approved me within a couple of
weeks. My doctor, Dr. Miles in B'ham, had me to list all the diets I have
been on and any diet medication I have taken over the past two years. I
listed everything from Weight Watchers, which is considered a supervised
diet, to general diets such as "counting fat grams." I also
listed any herbal dietary supplements I took. If you are 100lbs or more
overweight, I don't think you will have any problem getting approved. I
hope this helps. Best of luck to you.

Hi Jackie! I have BCBS Alabama through US Pipe. I was a troublesome
customer (long story), but BCBS approved me quickly and easily. They were
very nice to me each time I called to check on my status. They approved me
within about 2 weeks. And the week following my surgery, I received my
notice where they had paid everything already. They were great to work
with, in my opinion.
By the way, I live about 5 minutes from the Mercedes Plant and I helped
test the first people hired there! I may have met you at some point!
Good luck to you!

Hi Jackie,
I have BCBS of AL, ppo. They were a dream. They approved me right away. MY
Dr was slow getting all the paper work in, The insurance company actually
called the surgeons office and asked them to fax the info to them and gave
the surgeon an approval right over the phone. It was great.
GOOD LUCK!
Love,
Nicole

I have BCBS of Al PPO (Blue Choice) and once they received the paperwork it
took ten days. They are a little slow to actually show that they have
received paperwork, but I was told I could call every day to check on it,
and I did! I do not have a supervised diet history, but I was approved no
problem.
