Question:
too many carbs?

I love Yoplait light yogurt - but it has 19g carbs - I really try to limit my carb intake - what do you think? I eat it every morning for breakfast.    — Sharon O. (posted on January 15, 2003)

In my first axp 6 months po, I tried to keep my carbs under 50g a day even though the dr never specified the amount I should have, after apx my 10th month I asked them what the amount should be because I was told to stay away from carbs from some people and yet I was told your body needs carbs for other bodily parts and functions by others in the med field, and wanted an idea as to what a limit should be, i was told to stay under a 100g a day, so thats what I do...everyone has different views on it and or different programs their surgeons give them, best is to see what ur program is and follow that.

I have a 4 oz yogurt with 1 Tbls of grape nuts in it everymorning. Wouldn't start my day without it. I have very litte or no carbs with lunch and with dinner if I have carbs they are in the form a veggies. I am a firm believer that if you want to succeed, you have to have a somewhat normal diet. I do however go to fitday.com at least once a week just to monitor my intake to see where I am at. I have had a few platues, but I only have 5 lbs to my 100 lb. mark. You need to do what is right for you, if carbs are a problem and you couldn't do without your am yogurt, cut them somewhere else. It's all trial and error isn't it? Good luck!

Opinions are like....Everyone has them. Do what is best for you, But, personally, I think Yogurt has WAY TOO MUCH carbs...I do less than 20g for my whole day. I don't do any yogurt, bread, pasta, etc...I do eggs & turkey sausage for breakfast or a protein bar. Good Luck! Heather (5 mos post-op 8/15 - 305/224/150)

Your body needs protein, carbs and fat to function properly. That said, I will say that I eat a small (6 oz)container of yogurt every day. I started doing that because I can no longer swallow pills with water, unless they are very small and coated so they don't start to dissolve in water. I take a spoonful of yogurt, hold it in my mouth and then pop in the pill(s). That way I can get down the calcium citrate, pre-natal vitamins and an anti-depressant that I take.

My nutritionist also told me that carbs are an important part of your daily nutrition. But there are good carbs and bad carbs and I believe yogurt is one of those good carbs. I would try to keep daily carbs below 100, though there are those who go much lower.

Sharon, my nutritionist told me that yogurt is the good carb and not the bad. Why don't you try Dannon lite & fit creamy. It is good and not that high in carbs; but again, yogurt is a GOOD CARB!!!
