Question:
I am 5 ft 9 and weigh about 270 is there anyone out there that start about

where I am and if so how fast did you lose? I am curious to see what my progress will be like. I have a surgery date of April 7th. I am a huge coca-cola drinker and know that just having to quit them is going to be a huge shock to my weight along with the food aspect of the surgery. Anyone that has an answer can email me at [email protected]. Thanks    — Annette S. (posted on January 9, 2003)

I'm 5'4" started at 283, so I can't help you with that statistic, but what I have done to kinda get a feel for things (we don't all lose the same, some slow, some fast...) But, in the gallery section go on the left side, scroll down to 'surgery date roster' and then you'll see click here to see by months' I looked up people 1 and 2 years ago on my surgery date and read through some profiles, you will probably find a few with your same stats that way, then you can get an idea that way. This site is so addicting, it's fun to find new ways to keep motivated. Good luck!

Hi! My starting stats were 5'9 262 pounds i was ins sizes 20-22/24, pretty darn close! I averaged losing about 15-20 pounds a month. Right now i am 6 months post-op and weighing around 160 (official weightloss i will know next Thursday) and wearing a comfortable size 12. I was a huge Mt.Dew drinker prior to surgery, i never drank anything else. I missed it a little, but then about a month after surgery i tried a sip of it.. tasted like crap!! So i have no desire to drink it. I stick to water, crystal lites, orange juice, and Juicy Juice boxes.. :) Good luck to you!

Hi! I was 5 foot 9 and 285 when I had my surgery almost 5 months ago. so far, I have lost78 pounds and 65 inches! I went from a size 24/26 to a size 14/16. In fact, I was just at Old Navy and their size 16 jeans fit great! I am SO thrilled to have done this! Best of luck to you! Peace,

Annette~I had an OPEN RNY on November 15th 2002. I was at a starting weight of 320 and since than (almost 8 weeks) I am now down 40 lbs. I dont know if that is fast but I am very happy with the loss I have had so far. As for the coca-cola drinking and what...I was a HUGE soda drinker. I tried soda post-op and I HATE IT! Its the grossest thing I've ever had...WHAT WAS I THINKING. My taste buds have changed drastically since the sugery....i dont have ANY cravings for sweets any more...they just dont do for me.

I'm shorter than you by 3" but I have lost 131 pounds in 9 months. I was a huge coke cola drinker. That and bread were the hardest things to give up. The craveings do go away especialy when you try to drink a real coke and oh the pain of it going down that is a good deternat not to drink. Best wishes on your upcoming surgery. Sarah

That was about exactly what I was pre-op. I am 5'8 1/2" and my start out weight was 268. I am 8 months post op today. Down 120 pounds to 148. I have gone from a 24 to a 4. I kept a pretty detailed history in my profile and I have before and after picks. I really thought that I wouldn't be able to deal with the lack of food. But I found it much easier than I thought possible. I can eat anything just in smaller amounts. I drink Diet Coke just not all the time.

Annette, Hi there I'm some what close well to your height anyways, I'm 5'10 and had a starting weight of 303 pounds, pre-op that's all I drunk was soda, (Pepsie) diet pesie was my favorite, I used to drink so much of it thought it was comming out my veins... I was totally addicted to it, how-ever when you have surgery you really have no choice, with both food and of course soda, I know the 1st week post op I had really bad headache's due to lack of soda, the food part, that'll come in time, I'm still trying to fight off the head hunger, how-ever my catch pre-op was fried foods and bread.... Of which post op I cannot tollerate anything fried, bread I can only eat from time to time.. And not very often at that. On the matter of soda, I have begun drinking coffee, I know a big no no, but I drink it, and the regular stuff about 10 -20 oz a day I need to get my cafinee in some how... Oh by the way I'm 7 months post op and down about 109 pounds, 30 pounds to goal.... I now I'm due to post a full length photo since I'm in the century club now. Good Luck and God bless, everything comes in time.

I am 5'10 and weighed 265 lbs. the day of my surgery, Oct. 16, 02. I am now down by 55 lbs. in 2 1/2 months, weighing in at 210. Still 5'10 though. LOL As for the cola drinking, I too was a huge diet coke drinker, had to drink at least 10 a day. Boy, has that changed!! I had no problems giving the cola's up for it is now hard enough to get my water in, much less hold another type beverage. On occasion, I will open a diet coke, sit it in the refrigerator until the next morning, then drink it, slowly. The taste is still there since my taste buds have changed, all that is gone is the carbonation. If I try to sip DH cola, the carbonation sends me puking. Which puking is what I have had a lot of since surgery. I need to update my profile, for that has just about ended, for at one time I was greatly concerned but the doc assured me, in time, all would get better as my pouch healed. It has gotten better, even though, some days I still upchuck. But anyway, good luck to you, and it might help if you start cutting back on the caffiene now before surgery.

I am 5 ft 9 1/2 and weighed 260 at time of surgery. I am now 9 days post-op and already down to 230. I suspect that my weight will not come off as fast anymore but it felt great.

I was 5'8" and started at 275. My surgery was March of 2002 and I have lost 144 pounds. I haven't had the taste for cola since my surgery and have been able to eat pretty much what I did before. I can't eat chinese food or untoasted bread. Oatmeal also bothers me but other than that I have not had any problems.
